Mazeroski's home run gets all the attention, but that whole Game 7 was amazing... seesaw lead changes, big hits, crazy bounces, crafty baserunning... and not a single batter on either team struck out! I'll argue it must've been even better than Game 6 of the '75 series for sheer entertainment & drama, but the '75 series was in color, in prime time, and most folks are too young to even know about 1960 anymore....

Second greatest home run in that game behind the Hal Smith home run.

I live in southeastern pennsylvania and I am family friends with people who go by the mazeroskis, not realizing that they are the grandchildren of bill mazeroski. His son David Mazeroski was my brothers basketball coach, which i think is pretty cool

By most accounts Mazeroski was the best fielding second baseman of all time (similar to how most people think Ozzie Smith was the best fielding shortstop ever). Also like Ozzie, Maz was actually a below average hitter for his career, so to many people Bill's selection to the HOF by the Veterans Committee was a bit generous. But Maz did leave an unforgettable mark on baseball history with his bat with this Game 7 home run, about as clutch a hit as you can possibly get! I am proud to sponsor his Baseball Reference page! Maz was a damn good player!

One of the stranest of all World Series.Pittsburgh won all four of their victories by one run.The three Yankees victories were blowouts. The Yankees outscored the Bucs by a huge margin in all seven games.

We would listen to this game on a new fangled transistor radio at recess in elementary school in San Antonio. For some reason, most of us were Pirate fans. It was a highly exciting series even though we were far away from it. Recognition to Roberto Clemente.

Huge Pirates fan but I would say it is number three behind Bobby Thompson and Bucky Dent, as those occured with their team behind. Still the greatest WS homer.

He was a man of destiny. If Casey hadn't messed up the pitching staff, the Yankees would have won. If that ball doesn't bounce up and hit Kubek on the throat there would have been no Pirate rally (5 runs!!!) and the Yankees would have won.. And if Mantle gets doubled off of first (and he was safe by a 1/4 inch), the Pirates win 9-8 but no Maz HR. So, someone up there wanted Maz to be a hero. Amazing.

I was in fifth grade with a transistor radio with ear plug. I got home in time to see the happiest moment for me. I ran out on the front porch screaming the Pirates won! All the kids from junior high were at our house by then.

Terry's 1st pitch was a lollypop and Blanchard went out to talk to him. Whatever he said didn't work as Terry threw another batting practice pitch to Maz. Two years later he would do it again to McCovey but got lucky instread.

Yankees out-scored the Pirates 55-27. In their three wins, the Yankees out-scored the Pirates by 38 - 3. Let that sink in. 38 - 3! That’s an average of 13-1 per win! Mickey Mantle literally broke down and cried after this game. I can’t say that I blame him.

The only thing that MIGHT top this is the Rajai Davis HR in game 7 this century. But in my book it tops this HR because i knew Davis and he grew up 20 minutes away from where i grew up. Our high schools play against each other. I probably watched him play ball at school when i was in MS. AND IM A CUBS FAN.
