When I played Grandia II, I was a 12-year-old angry gay atheist stuck in a Catholic school until graduation. Ryudo was absolutely perfect for me.

All i remember is that they spoiled main villain from the get go. I mean, Zera Innocentius? You couldn't be more obvious with that "zero innocence" name. But overall i remember as a kid trying out Grandia 2 several times, and i always dropped the game somewhere after first major boss (Gluttony) mostly because of the camera and lags on my ps2 port. I even had that game on pc disk, but i'm no pc player, so i couldn't last long there. Several years ago, when i was already 30, i was showing my friend old games i had and amongst them was Grandia 2. I saw that i still have a save file, so i decided to continue from that part (i already knew the beginning, so i was lazy to replay it, and i also was afraid of dropping the game again), so i started somewhere from the middle of the story and fell in love with it immediately. After that it took me several weeks to finish the game, and i was really happy that i had a chance to play that masterpiece. Amazing game, amazing plot, amazing characters. One of my favorites, i'm sure to replay one day.

Thank you for making this video!! Not to throw shade at other people who've made videos about this game but your video's the only one thats been able to say what i've had on my mind regarding this game! The ending felt like a big slap to the face but I couldn't help but feel drawn to it! I was angry that the whole message was "stop playing videogames", It felt like a hypocritcal theme because... it is a game... But for some reason it wasn't a theme that I could be disappointed with but i couldn't put my finger on why... until now!! I will carry moon with me into everything I make!!! That is love, this is love.

Been really deep into Stranger of Paradise recently and this was recommended to me, great video! I thought it was the hahah meme video too, but now seeing all the early "reviews" of it being dismissed as being outright dumb/stupid/intolerable while people also continuing to proclaim Jack and his friends are isekai "real world" heroes is super annoying, so it's nice to see the more balanced reviews where people actually listen to the "story" to understand what's going on beyond "dude says chaos a lot."

just finished it for the second time (first was years ago on psp) and god damn this game has such a bad writing .... every stakes, events, dialogues, turnarounds are ridiculous. "we've made a scifi game, let's not make anything scifi beyond starship and let's do fantasy as usual, with time travel that everyone can use (WTF !!!) just to justify not having blasters, magic, a demon world locked by four kings for no good reason, main bad guy that can be killed only with a chunk of iron for the sole purpose of having a last thing to do with our party, a super advanced earth that has to rely on random people to kill the said bad guy because it seems that their troop can't use a knife, a civilisation from earth teleporting to roak which disappeared on roak for no reason, a stone virus whose whole purpose isn't even stated beside "it's a bad guy thing", blood of roakian turning monsters invisible for no reason and no purpose, an asmodeus guy being evil for the sake of being evil .... seriously i can't even fathom how an adult came with a scenario that could be written by a 5 years old child, was paid for it, and everyone said "yeah let's go with this" ......... i should have watched your video instead....

This game slaps so damn hard. I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed the story by the end. Yes it's dumb and yes it's corny as all hell - and by god that Linkin Park scene is the absolute best thing ever - but weirdly enough it's so damn earnest that I couldn't help but love it.

I remember really liking this game back in the day. To my shame, I also remember that the primary reason for that was that Millenia made me feel funny things. That and the game's practically Linkin Park-esque levels of edge. Maybe I should give it another shot sometime, I'm sure there must have been more to it than that. ... Oh shit, an actual _kiss_ in a JRPG?! Not a chaste hug or the usual lewd handholding? Damn, what an audacious title this was.

I wish I could have played it, but I got filtered out hard when I lost like an hour or two of progress because I kept waiting for the game to finally give me an opportunity to save and then a difficulty spike boss showed up that I just could not beat.

@@prettycody It’s one of those RPGs with a huge cast of recruitable characters, and maybe the first game I ever played with a major diverging path in the story? Super fond memories of it, but I haven’t played it since the PS2 heyday. I wish they’d port it, but I don’t think it got enough attention when it released.

Why is this game so expensive on the third market? They want like $79.99 for a game that IGN gave a 7.5 and GameSpot gave it a 7. Is it really a hidden gem?

44:09 nop it was the village daughter who went to check the seal and then got possessed. Melfice killed her out of mercy and for killing her he go possessed. The reason he turned evil is cause he wanted to be the greatest swordsman and for wanting to be more powerful he succumbed the possession cause his will is low. 44:54 the cool thing about the first battle is that depending on how you fight that battle is what gives or takes difficulty of the second battle. 52:55 Zera Innocentius hence Zero Innocence It's Latin, and all the singing in this game its Latin.

I decided to play this game because every steam review talked about how incredible the story was and man IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The overall plot is pretty generic but the execution is absolutely incredible, i COULD NOT predict how this shit would develop at all and it definitely did not go the route i expected it to. I can't even complain about the review not talking much about the story because LITERALY EVERYTHING IN THIS FUCKING GAME IS A SPOILER. Anyway, if you wanna get high, this shit is better than meth, both the visuals and story feels like a fever dream.

IMO masterpiece. The backgrounds and terrain looks extremely janky, and now I know why:) Definitely one of my favourites after clocking 90h+ and 100%'d it. The story got me engaged much more than I expected and for two weeks I was living this game, playing it every time I had any chance. The translation on launch wasn't really bad, kinda of bearable and you get used to it (as with some other jank in the game), unless we were talking about skills - then it was straight up terrible, and I dont know if it is all fixed. It was extremely inaccurate is lots of cases, and some skills had completely wrong translation. I remember getting constantly dunked on by enemies starting chapter... IIRC 4 or 5. You unlock one of the Karon skills that was supposed to give you resistance to all abnormalities by 10 and increase break damage by 1.5x. Turns out, someone from JP community drops by, gives a heads up on wrong translation and gives proper one - skill increases resistance by 100, but you are receiving 1.5x damage. With how damage is calculated against your defense, I think the difference was much bigger than 1.5x, since when I was testing it on game epilogue (80 hours in when I found out about this), same monster was hitting me nearly 3x harder with skill on. If not going for achievements, I strongly recommend easy or normal - hard was... lets say I played half of the time with skill that makes you deal more damage but die in one hit, and it made game so much easier. Astlibre has also DLC, and if we are talking about fanservice, the DLC has much more - since you can wear most outfits shown in the game (be it either NPC, enemy or one of the cast), like succubus outfit or maid outfit. And while the type of game is based on gameplay from base game epilogue, it still provides different spells, items (mostly, there are some base game items, either unchanged or just used graphics), skills or link tree.
