Simply stated: "WOW!" This is pushing gyotaku art up a higher rung. Good colour, editing and sound.

How do people dare to press the dislike button on this wonderful art!? So careful, thoughtful, giving the impression of being gentle with the animals, beautifully conveying the texture, including tiny details like the insect,… All this is extraordinary!

This Gyotaku was different than the others ive recently seen. It had way more feeling and energy. It almost seems like your work is a way for these creatures to live on eternally. Awesome work

That was my thought exactly! I feel particularly sad for the octopuses, having learned they are extremely intelligent & full of personality, but I thought “at least his beauty will be immortalised in a stunning print”. Cold comfort for the octopus though 🤷♀️ 🐙

I fell in love with it too....I now do it on all my photo worth catches.
Just found your Instagram and bought my first fish. I would love to see more footage from this set or other videos. Keep up the great work

Hi, I think your work is awesome. As a fisherman I would like to start doing gyotaku, could you tell if there is a traditional way to make your ink please ? Would you make a video about techniques to paint the eyes ? It might be the trickiest part to bring the fish to life on the paper. Thanks and keep up the great artwork !

Thank you for the kind words! I'd love to make more videos, but I'm so spread thin as it is with printing work (hence it took me a month to even look at comments and reply...). As for your questions, I like to use Japanese sumi sticks, which are compressed sticks made of pine soot and ground with water. There are a lot of KZitem videos that show how to grind ink as well as brush eyes. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you!! I am really glad that you enjoyed the video and the art we created. We put a lot of love into both. Not sure if I'd post regularly, but it might be nice to be able to post something nice from time to time.

Dwight brings a sensitivity to the art form I haven't seen in the almost thirty years I have been a practitioner, a teacher and enthusiast. I believe his work will make an enduring mark in the field of gyotaku for many years to come. I'm excited to watch his evolution on this.
