Very useful video. Many people buying locomotives on the secondary market may not receive the lubrication instructions with it. This is an excellent video to help them. Thanks!

Mine lasted 14 years. I had to order new ones online, as the train shop where I bought my 2-8-0 steam loco closed in September after 77 years in business. Too bad they didn’t fail last Christmas so I could have picked them up locally. I think getting the tire on the top of the wheel first and working the rest of it on the bottom would be easier. The foam cradle is a good idea.

Put in more than 15-20 drops of sk fluid. More like 30-40. Look how big the bowl is, not enough fluid will burn up wick in no time

How many of the wheels need the traction piece? Is it all of the big wheels?

Excellent video! Why MTH does not have a repair manual or DVD is amazing. This is great advice and demonstration.

Have you ever heard of super lube grease ? It's a full synthetic grease that is plastic compatible. They also make oil to lubricate with.

Thanks for the help. Do you guys sell packs of tires for HO steamers? Specifically a 15.2mm diameter and 1.3mm width for a 2-8-4 Berkshire.

Thanks for the video. It seems all my traction tires have been falling off the wheels lately and I needed to learn to self repair this to save money.

TRACKSHION TIRES ARE A NIGHTMARE LIONEL OR MTH ..THE TIME HAS COME FOR THE ELIMINATION OF THIS HELL? THE FACT IS THIS IS A TRAIN NOT A TRUCK? THE WHEEL SHOULD HAVE GRIP IN THE METTEL? OR MAGNATRACTION LIKE LIONEL HAD BACK IN THE DAY? OR THE GRIP SHOULD BE IN THE TRACK? ANYWAY BUT RUBBER ...IF YOU CAN PULL UP THE WHEEL YOU HAVE A GOOD CHANCE TO INSTALL IT DID YOU EVER DO THIS ?????? I HAVE I LIKE TO GET THE TRAIN AND RAPE IT AROUND THE PERSON THAT BUILT THE TRAIN? AND THE DESIGNER IN THE FIRST PLACE.......THIS IS INSANE MTH AND LIONEL DO SOMETHING WE JUST DON'T NEED THIS BULLSHIT YOUR TRAINS HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS? TO DEAL WITH????? MORE TIME FIXING THEN PLAYING WITH? AND THE PRICE INSANE???

Is it the same way on a HO mth steam engine

Virtually the same way yes for HO. However, in HO you need to remove the gearbox cover on the bottom for diesels. We have a video that describes how to remove the truck sides on our website at www.mthtrains.com
