Thanks for the detailed video, but the main aim of a lawyer should be to create justice and not revenue. It is a very ‚psychologically underdeveloped‘ way of thinking which these law firms seem to have? Not fit for a modern, fair world.

Do you get exams for the elective modules? Or is it just the core module which is assessed?
@jessicay8207

there are no exams for electives on the PSC, you just attend (usually virtually) and barely participate and thats it

How would you use your international background in an application? For example, I am trying to link my international background with the firm offering a guaranteed international secondment, but I am unsure as to how to structure this. Any help?
@shannontongg
2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you could explain how much you have learnt from moving to a new country/cultural environment for your degree, and that you are keen to recreate that experience by doing an international secondment, so that you can maximise your development as a trainee.

Totally agree with the power of networking! I got offered 2 paralegal jobs through networking and it has been such a great learning experience. Also, being a law student working as a paralegal in a top tier firm, the imposter syndrome is definitely real, hopefully one day I will be just as confident as you when I start my training contract!
@shannontongg

That is amazing you secured your roles through networking! I very much relate to your comments about imposter syndrome - I felt the same when I worked at a firm as a student! Confidence is definitely something that has come with time for me. I have written an article about building confidence if you are interested - inhousepotter.com/developing-confidence-in-law/

Hi Shannon, this was great, thank you! I'm trying to find out more about remote working possibilities for aspiring solicitors, in light of the new SQE/QWE pathway - do you think it will be possible to work from home as a trainee? P.S I'm looking forward to your APIL webinar on Thursday!
@shannontongg
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Siobhan! I definitely think it is a possibility, different employers have different policies in relation to remote working, I am personally able to choose where I want to work, so I could only work from home if that was my preference. See you at the webinar :)

What advice would you have for a non-law student during application season? I study Linguistics and French at a Russel Group uni but I have zero legal background and Im sooo lost :(. What expectations do you think they'll have of me?
@shannontongg
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you are applying to law firms, they won’t expect you to have any legal knowledge, although it would of course help if you had some kind of legal experience! I would recommend looking to attend law fairs (either virtual ones or one run by your university) and applying for open days at firms in October time. These events will help you start getting more of an idea of how the application process works and the expectations. There are also lots of resources available to help you online. I have shared some of my fav online platforms here: instagram.com/p/CRTnygPpSfN/?
