Most cars are to be black, grey or white and undistinctive. In the 1970s cars were all colours, and you could identify a Citroen DS or 2CV, Renault 4, Peugeot 504, Mercedes and Volkswagen Beetle at once.

As confusing as it looks, I feel like it makes sense… kinda… I noticed every single person is cautious of those around them. It’s almost as they know who has the right away and not this entitled “ME NOW! I GO NOW!” They are polite drivers and go with the flow…. Probably would save everyone a head ache to have a road system but I mean… I could manage this. Just takes patience

A little bit of context, this place was created as it is in the 19 centurie before car existed. We keep it like this without lanes and without reworking the traffic logic pretty much for esthétiques. It was not made to be functional with car but pedestrians and such

We are the European country with the highest number of roundabouts by far. Do you really think we don't know how to create them ? You have no clue about the contraints of this intersection (12 multi-lanes entries), its size (240m of diameter), its hirstorical urban environment (we probably should erase the Arc of Triumph or build an ugly multi-layer roundabout in the middle of Paris!). So please think twice before saying BS.

The key is "right priority". Everybody coming from one's right has priority. Once you understand that, you are operational on Parisians roundabouts and intersections.
@christopheripoll2580

Not at all my friend! It is the only (inverted) roundabout in France. Elsewhere prioritiy is given to people who are on the roundabout. "Priority to the right" is applied to classical intersections (not roundabouts) where there is no yield or stop sign.

This place is more a tourist attraction than anything else. 12 avenues leading to this square and car traffic is almost impossible to manage. In addition, it's an historical place, several centuries old, and to put lines here would definitively kill the charm. On another hand, the French motorway network is very modern and extensive, and is one of the best in Europe, if not the best.

If this is such a notoriously bad roundabout, then why doesn’t the Parisienne government try to improve the traffic flow? This problem isn’t anything new. The problem has been known about for decades. I honestly don’t understand why the government won’t try to improve the roundabout.

@@stephen10. It really is insane to have a completely different rule just for Paris - and as the video shows, it causes backlogs of traffic as instead of one set of cars having to stop once before entering, several sets of cars already on the roundabout have to stop several times - at each entrance, to allow traffic onto the roundabout. And there are no road markings!
