Just ran into this issue. (Out of warranty) Service was responsive providing cleaning suggestions but that was all. A tear-down of the unit showed a bit of corrosion and discolouring on the circuit boards by the infrared sensors. Will try to replace the leds If I can confirm the specs. (they do not last forever). Good luck with yours.

@@nieldewet5315Not yet. The circuit board by one of the LEDS was severely corroded. The copper had completely rotted away. the board was cleaned and a wire jumper was installed to bridge the gap. The battery life improved but the circuit still burned through them very quickly. I have temporarily taped down the lock until I have the time to rip it down again. I still believe that I am on the right track.

Had this happen with a Catmate cat flap. The cause for me was using Energiser Lithium batteries which fried the circuit.

I think you may need to clean the two optical lenses inside the roof of the 'tunnel'. They sense cat movement before de-activating the lock mechanism. If they are dirty (which they do get as cats pass through) then the unit will be constantly searching for the cat's chip, and so runs down the batteries fast. Worth trying anyway! Cleaning them with a wipe is cheaper than buying new cat flaps. :-)

Hello guys. My sureflap had the same problem. Battery drain. In 24 hours the batteries needed to be replaced. It happened to my first unit after a long time of using it without problems Sureflap replaced it for free. And now happened also to my replacement unit. Suddenly just one day, after 1 year or faultless usage, it started to drain the batteries. I am clueless of what might be causing the problem.

In a correctly operating SureFlap Connect, the clicking happens normally when an object, such as a cat's head, breaks a light beam within the tunnel, and again when the object is removed. You can test this by placing your hand within the tunnel and listening for the click. If there's nothing in the tunnel blocking the light beam, perhaps there's a problem with the light emitter, the light detector, or the lenses used to focus/direct the light beam, or the associated electronic circuits.

Not sure about light beams, works off microchip in animal. My unit was faulty and just kept clicking until battery ran out.

My flap does the same thing. Sureflap are saying it’s down to interference as the flap is installed in a door with a metal panel which is confusing/triggering the sensors. Others who are experiencing this issue, are you also installed the flap in a door with metal in it?
@printrus111

Mine was in a wooden door, you just need to keep at them to get a replacement or refund, dont remember reading anywhere that it cant be installed in a steel door. I have had my replacement flap for almost 4 years now, have only ever cleaned it once, so dirt/hair has not affected the operation at all.

This door kills batteries in a day. The unit is terrible. I had to go without batteries and just make it a dumb door. Too bad. If they only had an AC adapter!

There's either something wrong with your cat flap or with your batteries. I use AA rechargeable batteries and they last for months. Make sure you're at least using alkaline batteries, i.e. none of that "heavy duty" rubbish.

My catflap identical to the one in the video went through a phase of ticking and going through batteries (monthly), didn't find out what the problem was but I bought and fitted a 6v AC/DC adaptor off e-bay, been working a year now, no problem and no ticking sounds ...

@@alank2296 HI, I'm interesting on how you plug the ac/dc adaptor. I try with a 6V DC 2000mA adaptor, the door is active and well connected (in the app), playing with the lock just after the power is set ON. But no triggering when the cat comes at the window.

@@oberon8976 Hello Oberon, I used a simple plug in adaptor, cut off the original plug and made connections to the pos/neg springs that also connected the batteries, never had to re-set the flap or had any issues with it, if you send a link I will forward on some photos so you can see what I did ....

My cat door has developed the same symptom. I think I might have worked out why this fault happens. I took the cat door apart, checked for any obvious faults, cleaned it and reassembled it; the fault remained. On closer inspection, I noticed that the power connection to the main board is via two pins. These pin just push through two holes in the main board. My guess is that these pins are not making a good contact with the main board, possibly due to tarnishing or some mechanical process. In an attempt to resolve the issue, I soldered the pins to the board. So far it's working! I'll try to remember to report back if it goes faulty again, as it might be an intermittent fault. I appreciate this won't be much use to @printurs111 but I thought it might help someone else who has the same problem.

@@simonduffy99 cool, was it wire connections from the battery compartment to the wires out of it, or connections from the power wires / pins from the battery supply where they connect into the pcb board? Are they not soldered from factory? I don’t suppose you took any close up photos showing any before and after ?
