I’m sorry, if feels like you have been mistaken. If you were joking, then excuse me, but if otherwise then let me explain to you further. As of typing this, I am a first year cadet and a c/ Airman First Class at my Air Force JROTC Unit. JROTC does not provide you with any combat training whatsoever (not just for AFJROTC units, but as a whole with other armed forces JROTC units). The only element of JROTC as far as I’m aware that bears any resemblance to “actual military training” are the PT/Raiders teams (PT stands for physical training, PT teams are a much more advanced version of PE that also encompasses after school routines whereas Raiders is an even more advanced version of the PT team). As a member of my unit’s Raider’s team, I can say with first hand experience that we are exposed to grueling obstacle cores, mile runs/lightweight ruck marches, and even more physically demanding tasks that rival and or are more difficult than the athletics programs at school. But even then, this cannot match up to actual military training. And yes we have a marksmanship team, no they don’t use real guns- they use BB guns.

If you serve 3 years in JROTC and decide to join any branch of the military in the United States, to my knowledge you will become a E-3 in the branch you decide to join. The JROTC class also may look good on any resume, and for future college opportunities, in my opinion.

Yes, you will start off at a higher rank if you complete 4 years. It also makes a difference on your resume

@@IdonysKitchento my information, 3 years is the minimum you need to serve in JROTC to gain benefits when you enlist.

I'm not sure how Air Force JROTC ranks provide diamonds. I'll have to ask her instructor.

Sean, if you're interested in learning how to lead teams and be a part of a community of students who don't mind working as a unit, then the answer is yes! You can contact me if you have specific questions about JROTC.
