Beautiful playing. So honest and stylistic. I love it. I wish all cellists would master these early works. When we do that our playing of all styles and eras of music improves. Thank you for sharing your music with us., Congratulations on your Julliard appointment. They are lucky to have you on their faculty.

Lovely playing, great cello, also use of dynamics tempi changes are wonderful. Just twos things: your pitch-finding hammer-ons should be heard only by you, and, similarly, the clicks of the strings on the fingerboard should be almost never heard. I am a fellow cellist, congradulations on your performance!

As a Cellist who plays alot of Bach suites, sounds as if the composer just took a bunch of influences from the suites. Unfortunately, not original sounding.

Oh my. I have been a cellist for 35 years and have a) never heard these pieces, and b) never seen a performance with such a mixture of style, grace, power, control, and voicing. Truly fantastic playing Zlatomir!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard such beautiful playing! You express this music so perfectly (I don’t know what other word to use) that I can’t imagine how it could be played differently and still express such beauty. I’m in awe of the music of each of these caprices and a large part of that is due to how you express it. Thank you for such a gift here on KZitem!

Incredibile! I was watching along in my cello part and I'm blown away! I'm going to try to learn this piece; do you have any suggestions in tackling this piece?? Thanks for the performance, you KNOCKED it out of the park!
@zlatomirfung6876

Thank you so much for your comment! My only suggestion is to not be intimidated by the tempo marking, but instead look for the natural character of each gesture, and give every musical idea the time it requires to speak clearly. This is one of the things that Mr. Salonen imparted to me when I had the chance to play this piece for him. Best of luck!

Hello Zlatomir, I"m a huge fan of your work. Do you have any tips for working on intonation?
@zlatomirfung6876
5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment and your support of the channel! I try to work with a tuner every day during my scale warm-up, setting the tuner to equal temperament. I find that I can always make small intonation adjustments while performing solo or for expressive purposes, but having a solid instinct for the geography of the fingerboard is important for me. I also try to think a lot about solidifying my hand position, so whenever I shift to a new position, I am able to "lock in" to the intonation of the position. Practicing double stops, especially fourths and thirds, is helpful is this respect. I hope this makes sense and is useful to you.

Zlatomir Fung hi! Thank you so much for your response! Do you think positioning of the thumb on the neck of the cello affects intonation? I tend to play more with the “edge of my thumb” on the neck.. what would you recommend?
@zlatomirfung6876
5 жыл бұрын
@@dankmemes16 I tend to play with the left-side meat of my thumb touching the neck, but I think the most important thing to remember is that the positioning of the left hand on the neck should be a totally natural state. In our early years we are often taught that the thumb should be roughly beneath the second finger, or between the first and second finger, but this is actually just an illusion created by the angle of the hand. If you remove your hand slowly from the neck when in first position, the thumb should actually fall slightly to the left beneath the index finger.
