Reason is a function, it is important for negotiating a path between the head and the heart; thought and feeling. It is not the deity it has been elevated to in The Age of Reason, and it can, if untethered from the heart and feelings be Frankenstein-ish.

Thanks for asking this question and hosting this session, Nathan. I've been wrestling with this "reality" vs "non-reality" social struggle debacle since 2021 and it's great to hear a philosophical debate on it. I don't get to have conversations like these in my immediately available social groups.

This is all very clever talk. However, Bach does not know what note he will play beforehand, yet God would. How do you explain that? You explained how we could inherit the freedom of God, yet limit him in doing so. From my understanding God has foreknowledge in Christianity, and from that we can conclude we are not free.

This was great, thank you. How do you think the realism / nominalism dichotomy maps to Iain McGilchrist's idea of the left and right brain hemispheres and their different ways of seeing the world (in his book The Master and his Emissary) ?

I have no idea if Dr Jacobs sees these comments but I have a request for a podcast episode. An overview of Logos Theology. Logos, Logoi, Skopos, The Energies, and how said system compares and contrasts with Thomistic Essentialism/Substance Metaphysics. I have never seen a comparison done and I can't find an in depth overview of Logos Metaphysics, while many exist for Thomism. Loving this channel!

I feel like this video would get 10x views if you applied this analysis to corporations that buy IP and then undermine the intent of the original creator. “The Acolyte and Cultural Appropriation” seems like something the algorithm would love.

Happy to see your podcasts are now on youtube, which allows us to adjust the video speed (I am super-busy and listen to all videos/documentaries/movies/interviews at 1.75 speed)! I enjoy your work! Glad to see you discussing Dugin! Also: around the 1:19:00 mark you correctly criticize the Left-Hegelians for ignoring a core component of Hegel's work; incidentally, I have friends who are both east orthodox and right-hegelians who are trying to reconcile Hegel with Orthodox theology of Palamas etc. -RSM PS I am also curious to know your take on the fordham vs. anti-fordam debate taking place in some orthodox circles. *Update: Disregard my fordham question; you pretty much answered it in the course of the [brilliant] talk!

Great video. Thank you. But for me trans humanism is not so easy to stop. My English is not good enough, so I attach a video about trans humanism from a christian / catholoic perspective, that impressed me very much. I would like to point to a special thought: Does not trans humanism start with any medical treatment, that is adding a artificial element: a hip replacement, a "new" heart, any prothesis. Is THIS not the entrance, that already happened? That, which we cannot resist. Not so much a demonic trans sexual to trans human developement, but a "humanistic" first step, for health, for optimizing. Any beauty treatement, which does not change your gender, but still the "reality"? So, the link is that one: kzitem.info/news/bejne/pm2dmIaGgp19dX4si=iiC55q16C-7gGEHK

I have an idea. I am sure that you record these sometime in advance and maybe even know several weeks in advance what's going to drop. If this is the case I think it would be neat if you could release a recommended reading list prior to the video releasing. This is the closest thing I've seen to college level education in podcast form. So I'm thinking of something where the people that wanted to could come to class having read the assigned material in advance. Clearly most people couldn't do that for every episode but it might be fun especially on a topic that is particularly interesting ti an individual

Connected with the idea of rights, how might a patent fit in? If I patent a certain way of making pottery, to use your metaphors, then it seems that I hold the right over the abstract idea of that particular type of pottery. Even if you buy the pottery and reverse engineer it, it would be a violation of my right. Perhaps patents are not actually rights to begin with. But if we allow that a patent enables one to “own” not merely a pot but the particular structure and manufacturing of all pots of that form, does that open the door to the designer having rights over the abstract rather than merely his own particular pottery?

Very well-argued, sir! I've always just thought imitation was the sincerest form of flattery, so I thought the whole question involved a fair bit of hooey. If asked by a socialist, it reveals a blistering level of self-contradiction which, to be fair, socialists appear to be quite comfortable with. I, after all, didn't think it was "cultural appropriation" when non-English-speaking slaves from Africa started learning English; why should they object if we return the favor? I thought the bit at the end about recognizing the sacred was good to remember, even if not applicable in the AAVE case.

I think it's interesting that it's not necessary to grasp an idea on a "3 and 4" level in order to espouse it on a "1 and 2", and yet the "1 and 2" espousal remains so consistent with the "3 and 4" foundation. Seems counterintuitive - usually the ability to portray something simply and accurately depends on a mastery of the fine print. I think the same thing is true often times in theology. People have surface level theological commitments without realizing their implications. The point is that those implications end up manifesting themselves anyway.
