I read the following yesterday for the Nun Theodora (Sep 11th) in the translator notes: Trans. Note: One might find highly implausible a beardless monk dwelling in a monastery for so long a period of time unquestioned. But perhaps eunuch-castrates were still common at this time, and as such losing also the capacity to grow beards. The matter of cross-dressing in men's monastic attire is a literary gendre occuring also in the lives of other women saints, usually only for the purposes of concealment and for but a short time. But as the "Redaction" account introducing the Russian original of our text indicates, the Saint-Lives reflect a broad spectrum of historical sources compiled with differing intended purposes, often other than the "modern" penchant for strict recording of historical facts. The above cites an explanation that is pre-revolution which I think is helpful. "often other than the "modern" penchant for strict recording of historical facts." This is not to deny the miraculous (which if you keep reading is not done), but rather to understand that the framing of details fits a particular purpose in illustrating the lessons the saints teach us.

@@GentleBreeze1234 Ok, let me ask you this. What should I be looking for that should be a red flag to leave? In my opinion there are many "little" things we do wrong. For example: 1. People stand wherever they want, we never practice the tradition of the women on the left and the men on the right, which I think is proper and beautiful. 2. There is never a penance after confession 3. He never withholds Eucharist 4. Never uses the narthex as intended (e.g. for catechumens and sinners that need to be out of the nave for a period of time). 5. His wife never participates with us in the liturgy, she's always, and I mean always in the fellowship hall, never veils, and always dresses down (e.g. yoga pants T-shirt). When asked, she says Greeks don't veil, it's not part of their tradition. When the priest is asked, he states, the Bible isn't really perfect, and that St. Paul also said women shouldn't speak in church. He says this to get you to question Paul, in hopes that you doubt and stop bringing up things that we should be doing. I find that concerning. 6. He allows women to come dressed provocatively (e.g. mini and tight skirts, cleavage showing). I understand a new person may need some time, but after three years, he won't say anything, just says we need to pray and be merciful. 7. Some parishioners have requested to remove the chairs like back in the days, at least sometimes, and he refuses. 8. Doesn't have an organized catechumen course, it's basically a teach yourself approach. I have a daughter, and I was hoping she would see good examples of how women dress, and participate in the liturgy. People have complained to the Bishop, but nothing seems to change. Are any of these reasons to leave or be concerned?
@GentleBreeze1234
Ай бұрын
@@latinboyyy305 these are definitely things that you're not wrong to be concerned about. It also depends on what's available to you. If this is the only parish currently anywhere near you, you shouldn't stop going to Church altogether over these things. You need to go to the divine services as much as possible. The grace of God is there regardless of the sins of the people in that particular parish. You may perhaps also see if there are more traditionally minded parishes in your area. I can only recommend that you seek out a traditional spiritual father that you can bring these concerns to. Idk your situation so that may practically mean driving far, getting on a plane, depends on your situation. The monasteries of Elder Ephraim in the United States would be a very good place to seek spiritual guidance, if you are able to get to any of those. If you look under the "Affiliated Monasteries" page on the website of St Anthony's Greek Orthodox Monastery you can see a map of where all of the monasteries are located. There are monasteries in Arizona, California, Washington, Texas, Wisconsin, Florida, North Carolina, New York and other places.

There no Salvation outside of the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Bergoglio is a false Pope, the last valid Roman Pontiff was Pius XII. The Vatican was usurped by apostates of the Faith in 1958. So you feel that because you have a KZitem Channel you have the ecclesiastical right to pronounce Judgement on an Arch Bishop? Are you a Patriarch or a Metropolitan or the High Priest of the Church? If not, then I recommend that, for your own sake, you cease this criticism. You are using your limited understanding of things, through the lens of your ideology, to criticize an ArchBishop - this kind of evil speaking of the Lord's ordained and anointed is very dangerous. If he's teaching falsehoods, he will bear the responsibility for those things. Only his Metropolitan and the Lord can evaluate his actions and statements and render Judgement. If you are in the OCA, you can register your objections with your parish priest and leave them in his hands. Most of your arguments are contentiously very legalistic, reminiscent of the very attitudes of the Pharisees and Scribes. There needs to be room for grace, love, and pastoral care when dealing with people. Arguing the way you have is rigid, ritualistic thinking - which Christ did not engage in. Imagine if Christ refused to eat with the tax collector, refused to touch the Leper, or refused to intercede on behalf of the harlot? or Prevented Women from following him. If he was that legalistic, this wouldn't be Christianity; it'd be more akin to Islam. Is that who we want to be? If Christ came today and said these things, would you condemn him, too? What if Christ came and attended an LGBTQ+ event, eating with them and speaking with them? Would you call for him to be condemned and kicked out of his own Church? Perhaps an ArchBIshop understands some things about being Christian that lay people do not. Unless you are sure you'd be canonized a saint after your death, I would show humility and refrain from Criticizing. St. John Chrysostom (c. 347 - 407 AD): Frequently preached against gossip and slander, especially against those in authority. In one of his homilies, he said, "Nothing is so destructive to the common good as the spirit of detraction and calumny. It poisons the minds of men, sows discord and division, and undermines the very foundations of society." You risk bringing condemnation upon yourself. Jesus also said not to Judge lest ye be judged, and "Let he who is without Sin cast the first stone." Also, "Contention is of the Devil." I would encourage you to unlist this video, repent, and go to confession. By the way, regarding kissing the Hand of the Pontiff, I see orthodox clergy kissing each other's hands all the time as a sign of respect-it doesn't mean he's bowing down and worshipping the Pope or submitting his authority in any way. Have some Grace - In his role, the Archbishop has to walk a fine line in public statements - while still leaving the door open to call all into the Church and call all to Repentance. I see nothing wrong about his comments wrt the March for Life. His comments on Social Media seem to be structured as to encourage Men and Communities to help women bear the burdens of pregnancy and child-rearing - which we should, if we want women to make the decision to keep their babies instead of aborting them. Instead of giving billions in aid to other countries, we should use that money to pay expectant mothers to stay at home with their children and provide them with the support they need. We need to put our money where our values are. How is the adopted child in any way responsible for the actions of those who adopted him? Would you deny him baptism and the light of christ because his parents are sinners? News flash, both your parents and mine as sinners too, as are we. Should we be turned away? If he's really gone off the reservation, God will hold him accountable. When a representative of the Lord apostatizes, God takes care of it in his own time and manner. His Spiritual Father (the Metropolitan) will correct him if he feels it's necessary. Don't worry about it. BTW: My wife and family are not Orthodox. I had to give up and sacrifice a lot to become Orthodox. SO, saying that I cannot pray with my family and should be excommunicated if I do is an offensive and ridiculous position. Do you think that Peter and Paul never prayed in a Synagogue while teaching the Jews? If I refused to pray with my Wife, how could I ever expect to bring her into the Church? She'd think we were a bunch of bigots without any Grace. Btw: Whenever I bring people to church, they are 100% always turned off by the sharing of the spoons and usually do not return. I don't think there is any issue with using 1 spoon per person - personally I'd prefer it. Don't confuse culture and small 'traditions with the Christian Faith - doing so, is really missing the mark. God Bless and Save you.

Horrific! These bishops and priests have not learned dogmatic theology in monasteries the hard way through many years of obedience, fasting and humble hard work but through modern protestant influenced and scholastic theological academical universities popping up and draging profane students from the streets, giving them titles, influence and money to pervert the church. This is a part of the great apostasy that St Paul speaks of. Saint Kosmas foretold this saying that in the last times men will become women and women will become men. Priests will become like laymen and laymen like demons.
