Joe Calzagie is a Great Champion & its never been in doubt. You don't get to be a Legend unless you beat the guy's he's beat, or retire undefeated. Joe is a Great Champion.!

Something left out by the commentators: Calzaghe is also the combination fighter. He can get of with the hab first and follow with another punch before the counter comes. You don't need to be a power puncher if you hit the opponent twice as often.

Two truly great fighters and two truly great people. That night, Joe was just a bit greater. Someone was trying to tell me that Sven Ottke would have beaten both of them. What a joke. Except of course, if the fight had been in Germany.

Not only was it a slip, Kessler had just landed a good punch". It was Calzaghe who had landed a left to the ribs, not Kessler. It WAS a slip, but I'm not sure the commentators had a clue which boxer was which at first. They figured it out by the end, though.

I would say that Kessler gave Joe the hardest fight that he ever had. Kessler fought really intelligently but Joe just kept pulling it out. I know he’s not the hardest Puncher ever, but that rat a tat incessant style would ware anyone down. No one can ever say that Joe didn’t fight them all, because he did. Best Fighter I’ve seen in the last 30 years.

@@Art-is-craft Joe was all Heart, he was down early in a couple of big fights. But his powers of recovery were astounding. You’re right about his hands being suspect, but he wasn’t a real knockout specialist, but hand speed and reaction time second to none and he was in your face all the time.

How many times have you heard cornermen say "he will get tired" about Joe, don't they know, he was a machine, he was working as smoothly and as hard at the final bell as he was at the first. Thinking Joe would tire was never a good fight plan ever. And who is that dumb American commentator, he should just shut up as he appears to know very little about Joe or the way he fought.

Calzaghe was never a big hitter, rarely got rid of boxers with his punching power, but his agility, skill, workrate, and quick flurry of punches, that landed more often than not, got him ovet the line. His record speaks for itself, he was a brilliant fighter.

Even with the slaps, Calzaghe was still far from a weak hitter, especially before he had brittle hands. One of the things Chris Eubank talked about was how hard Calzaghe really punched back then, and I certainly believe him. Joe put Chris on the canvas in the first round.

Perfect example of Joe’s career. By no fault of his own, he came along at the end of the greatest era of middleweight boxing. He beat some of the greatest fighters at the end of their careers. Kessler was not a great fighter. And this proved Joe doesn’t deserve to be compared to the greats even the ones he chalked on his record.
@joshuakausmann5504

what u on about Kessler is 49-3 with 70 percent KO rate. Sure a lot of his fights werent with greats. But he was a good fighter. I could also say the same with Hopkins, who had won titles after his loss against Calzaghe so his age clearly wasn’t an issue. I’d actually argue that Hopkins did better as he aged. The only example of a chalked boxer I can think of is RJJ. Still an incredible resume.

A couple hours later the legend Bernard Hopkins said "I was cheated by the black American judge I won the fight I want a rematch HAHAHA Bernard looked like his face went into a potato peeler while Joe was laughing and smiling Joe and Naseem Hamed were the best ever British boxers who beat the worlds best and one close loss to the doped up Mexican is incomparable to the rest , Even when Naseem won his last fight by 12 clear rounds the crowd booed him ,Sometime we just don't know what we got

😂 are you stupid? Hamed was outclassed by Barrera and it wasn't close. As for Calzaghe, this was a great win but he lost to an old B Hop and he would've been beaten by RJJ pre 2003 easily..
@joshuakausmann5504

@@aa-up4sflost to an old b hop? my friend, check the punch stats. Calzaghe landed double the amount of punches and outboxed Hopkins in every single round. Hopkins is just a sore loser and lost and it’s not even close, everyone knows this. And Hopkins age clearly wasn’t an issue as he arguably fought better as he aged, and he still won titles even after his loss to Calzaghe. I’m surprised Joe only won unanimously, he clearly dominated over him. The win was decided with American judges too. Hop-Clinch couldn’t handle a Welshman with brittle hands, and needed to fight dirty just so he could have a chance against Calzaghe.
