Feel free to scroll to the end of you want the "reset breakers" solution, and not the drama. We have a Porch Lift Vertical Platform Lift and came with the house and is likely 20 years old. Our unit stopped working during our first annual maintenance call from ESC Elevator, Inc. company in the Charleston, SC area. Funny thing is it worked before the service call. ESC Elevators said the motor needed to be replaced and the cost was $2,549.00. I'll not use names because I don't believe in calling specific people, but the quote came from the Founder and President. I told them it worked before they serviced the unit and declined their proposed resolution. So 9 months later, a buddy of mine visited and was troubleshooting with me. I decided to KZitem and found this @LivingFreeHome video which got me on the right path. Thank you! I never believed the motor needed to be replaced. So, I figured it was electrical. I unplugged the unit, and reset all potential breakers from the house panel. Then checked all exposed wiring. Next, I removed the top large interior panel of the lift. From there I checked each connector and found a connector that was not connected and thought that was the culprit. Turns out, there is a small white toggle switch that I barely pushed and it clicked, and the toggle was now black. I plugged the unit back into the wall socket to test, and the problem was solved.

does anyone have any suggestions? We have a Bruno VPL-3100 Series Porch Lift, Mfg Date Feb 2015. It is unreliable, and the Local Lift Service Company is no help in solving the root of the problem. They just get it working, leave, and it soon fails again. This is the problem- Sometimes it will work perfectly, traveling up and down in one smooth continuous motion, and stopping at the appropriate bottom and top limits. Other times it will move/operate the motor in 3 second bursts, with pauses in between. Each burst of motor operation will raise or lower the platform about 6 inches. Each pause will last about 3 seconds. Once it begins to operate in these bursts, it will continue to do so, until the unit is unplugged/replugged, which triggers normal operation for awhile, but it eventually reverts back to "burst mode". When its traveling in "burst mode", the motor pauses with a minor click sound, then restarts with a minor click sound, and the brake does NOT lock/unlock with its loud clunk sound. When its traveling in "burst mode", you can keep the up/down button depressed to keep it moving in short bursts, but-- that turns out to be a terrible idea, because for some reason, it tends to lose track of its upper/lower limit switch motion control, and it will slam into and through the top or bottom limits, causing it to get "stuck" at either the top or bottom. I've learned how to manually release the brake to raise or lower the platform, getting it back in between the limit switches. Its fairly easy to lower it using the hand wheel on the top of the screw pulley. Its a little more difficult to manually raise it, using a big pipe wrench on the top of the screw shaft. Once its manually moved back into the normal zone of travel, and powered off/on, it will work normally for awhile, but eventually start operating in "burst mode", eventually overtravels, and eventually get stuck. I have ensured that the safety pan is clean of leaves and debris, and the safety pan switches work properly to stop it when obstructed. I have slightly raised the lower limit switch, so that if it overtravels just a little, it doesn't slam into the ground so hard. I have provided a dedicated 30 amp 125v electrical circuit, so its got plenty of clean power. I have measured that it draws about 13-14 amps of power when the platform is in motion, and that it momentarily draws about 40 amps when the motor starts. The circuit voltage does not drop significantly during platform motion, dropping from about 122v to 118v. I'm stumped. To me, it seems like an electrical, motion control malfunction, feeding/chopping power to the motor, and failing to monitor limit switches, and allowing the platform to slam into the ground. It especially seems like an electrical problem in that, when it starts "burst mode", if you immediately unplug/replug the unit, it reverts back to normal. The Lift Service Company is no help, claiming they've "never seen one do this", and recommending a very expensive replacement of motor, brake, and bearings. I contend that this is not the problem, and their recommendation won't fix it. Has anyone ever seen this before? Does anyone recognize what might cause this? Thanks.

@@andrewl5921 Yes, I did. Inside the control cabinet I found the schematics for all the wiring, circuits, switches, safeties, etc. I removed the inner cover over the control board, and identified every wire, every chip, relay, etc. I opened the conduit box on the motor, put an amp clamp meter over the leads to the motor, and identified each lead for start/run winding and up vs down motion. I proved that when the lift malfunctioned and went into “runaway” mode, that nothing short of physically unplugging it could stop it. Not the E-stop, not the up/down button, not the key, not the lower stop limit, not the first upper stop limit. It’s truly the WORST logic controller in the entire world. The only way to stop it without damage, is to rig up a power cord plug, that you can instantly unplug when it runs out of control. The 2-3 second pause is an onboard chip, start delay that’s part of its normal start up. It’s supposed to do this only once in the beginning of the up/down button cycle. I proved that the motor was working perfectly, as were the motor control relays that sent power to the motor leads for up and down, as well as the start winding surge to kick it off. The clicking sound I heard st motor start/stop was the normal close/open click of the relay. I also proved that they were simply responding to the start/stop signals from the main chip. I also proved that the E-stop, and two of the three limit switches did not cut power to board, nor the motor. They only send a signal to the main chip, which is supposed to then stop the motor, but it does not. The only thing that cuts power to the board and the motor, was the 2nd upper limit, the 15a main relay which would only trip when you bottomed out the lift, and lastly, the power cord. After much testing, it was my conclusion that the problem was a faulty control board main chip, and not an easily replaceable component like a motor relay. A replacement control board was about $1400.

@@andrewl5921I decided that I’d had all of this stupid lift that I wanted, and that everyone in my circle would be better off without it. I disassembled it into a pile of metal, and hauled it to the scrap yard where I got $75 for it. Good riddance.

Had an issue tonight with a Bruno lift that looks a lot like this one; here is the fix in case someone has the same. In our case somehow the gate came open just as the lift started to descend. When the gate opened, the lift shut off, but because the platform was not at the very top, the locking mechanism that is supposed to keep the gate shut was now preventing the gate from closing, leaving it inoperable. To fix, all you need to do is depress the leaf spring in the hole where the gate locks and while holding it down, return the platform to the top. Now you'll be able to shut the gate normally.

We have a Bruno vertical lift model VPL 3200 B series. After hurricane Florence our lift was not working. We had service out and they determined it was electrical. We did see that the breaker had been underwater and it was replaced with a 20 or 40 W breaker instead of what was in there which was 60 or 80W. The lift would work intermittently after that but then it just quit. We called for service but they could not determine what was wrong. It didn’t appear to be the batteries, control panel, or contacts. Does anyone have any other ideas? The nearest serviceThat can look at it is over two hours away.

Hey nice tips, I have a savaria wheelchair lift not too long after it was installed I would say maybe the following year it developed a pretty loud squeal noise it is not the plastic or nylon wheel that moves with the front flap that goes up and down part of the actual drive on skid plate or whatever it is the noise is coming from inside the unit for sure I have called local repair shops they want like $250 to come out and look at it wondering if you can give me a couple tips they had told me something typically needs lubrication on the inside and that it should not be a belt it is only a couple years old only came with a one-year warrantyI did purchase a new wondering if you can give me any tips on what may need lubrication on the inside thank you

Glad I watch this instructional video. My gf's daughters lift was taking a while to elevate. It was slow and had to be done in stages. I suspected it was a power issue (as the led's in the visual troubleshooting window weren't lit up like they usually are) but there are a lot of kids around and I wasn't sure if one of them had done something mischievous or inadvertently to mess with the lift. Anyhow it turned out that something or someone had dislodged the plug in the outlet. Thanks for this tip. I'm sure I would've found it eventually but this video helped get the lift up and running faster than if if I had pulled out my multimeter.

Hi, I have a ThyssenKrupp levant comfort and are desperately trying to find a wiring diagram but with no luck here in the UK, two of the 3 micro switches (Bank of three that operate on the track) broke, but even though I photographed the wiring to replace them there is 2 piggy backed green wire terminals that I don't know where they go, any help in this problem would be appreciated. Thank you Kevin
