Great Video... Question, I'd like to replace "3" Rt-AC68U AiMesh Nodes because of the "End of life" ASUS has issued for the units, My Primary Router is a WiFi 6 Rt-AX86U with Ethernet Backhaul. The "AX86S" seems to be the "logical" choice, being that I'd like to save a few dollars. There are other ASUS wifi 6 /AiMesh routers, Any thoughts/suggestions? Thank-You!

I just want to say I really like your videos, however only caveat your accent makes it a little dificult to understand with subtitles, it seems to be related to poor mic pic up making it harder to discenr, . i would recomend either getting a voiceover on fiver OR using a much clearer mic, this should making it much easier to understand even with your accent. . either way dont let this discourage you adapt and overcome your videos ARE EXCELLENT and are litterly the best i have found on this subject, it doesnt seem anyone else is doing this

Saw a review on amazon stating the AX86S has no merlin support, but according to the merlin supported device listings it is supported. > RT-AX86S (use the RT-AX86U firmware) > RT-AX86U

Hi there ! Can you please answer me this ? Does the RT-AX86U (having 2 USB 3.0 ports) support BOTH an external USB drive (HDD) AND a USB 4G dongle (for Dual WAN) ? Does the software support both of them at the same time ? I can't seem to find an answer anywhere else. If you have any suggestion for a router that does support those two features (dual WAN for failover to 4G and USB attached storage) please let me know. Thank you !

I look at a lot of pdf files and codes, I have mac m1 16 inch and 27 inch qhd monitor, I'm considering 2nd monitor for vertical use which is qhd or higher resolution monitor, I tried 27 inch monitor in vertical mode, but it's too big for vertical use, I'm stuck between this Lg gram view or 24 inch QHD monitor for vertical use, which one would you recommend?

just bought RT-AX86S becoz I dont need 2 wan port and 2.5G interface. I do have an USB Hard drive connected to it. I think the 512G of RAM is not enough although I went from a 256G AC-56U router. Once I enabled Aiprotection, the RAM utilization went from 79% to 92%. Of the RAM used only 30G were used as Cache......The utiliazation seems high. Transimission will termporaly be locked out when torrent file starts downloading, same as my old router. The WIFI performance is very good, covering my apartment, going thru a couple of brick wall....

No, you don't normally decrease the resolution to increase text size. You normally zoom in on your text.

At 2:41 click on ‘show all resolutions’ and you should get more 16:10 resolution choices, such as 1800 x 1125 which is close to Mac native scaled display.

The CPU doesn't matter for radio performance at all. The difference in performance comes down to variance of the actual HW. Not every unit performs the same. There are going to be AX86Us worse than AX86S and vice versa.

The Xbox's standby power is absolutely ghastly, especially since Microsoft talks such a big game about "modern standby" being nearly as good as S3 on laptops. But idling at 50W+ on the menu screen should be an embarrassment for both consoles. A desktop PC with discrete graphics can match that, assuming the default power-saving options (c-states + cpu frequency scaling enabled) and there's no water cooling or high-power RGB lighting. An APU with right-sized power delivery should be able to do way better.

Gonna pick 86S on BF. It is a perfect router for average home use. I was wondering how it performs against 86U. Your video is perfect!! We have 100mb internet so the 2.5G port is meaningless to us anyway. Even 86s is an overkill.
@mrchad97z49

Great comparison. Much better than the other top 2 or 3 videos on this router. And more to the point / quicker. Microcenter has the "S" on sale for $180. But the "U" is $270. The S is probably not selling very well.

That is true - the 86S is almost always on sale - seems like a psychological thing that people don't want to purchase a slightly inferior device even at a much better price :)
@mrchad97z49

@@guruhw welll.. As you said, the processing power and the ram are at a notable disadvantage. I guess if you have a small home network and you do not have many devices and you don't need a 2.5G wan port, then the "S" would be ok. To be honest, I have no idea what kind of WAN connection will need more than 1Gb. I am not aware of any providers that go higher than 1Gb. I have no use for 1Gb. If I can get 100mb/s that would be GREAT! So who needs 2.5Gb and what carrier would actually give you that much would be crazy expensive if it is even available.. The typical cable modem only transfers so many packets.. I forget what they call it I think Docsis specifies how many packets it sends and how many channels at once... Other than that, you would need like ATT Fiber for a full 1G ethernet. But the U version may be faster. It has quad core and twice the memory. More cores. I dont remember if it is dual core or quad core.
