We only have the the first game that came out, which is on GameCube, and uses the Poltergust 3000. The 5000 I think is the upgraded pack Luigi gets on the sequel

Yes, I can tell you enough I think to get started. This project can be either simple, or complicated--depending on how realistic to the Luigi's Mansion game you want achieve. Look online (I used Amazon) for a "PlayGo My Vacuum". It will be light yellow, red and blue. I then purchased spray paints, primer, and sealant (clear coat) that are made for plastics (should say on front of can). First I completely disassembled the entire thing into all its parts. Next I did two coats of sprayed primer on each individual part and then sanded with fine grit paper in between coats. Then, using many pictures of Luigi from the game, I carefully picked out colors to match and painted 2 coats on each part (you'll need some painter's tape for the wheels and some other small pieces). After last coat dried, I prayed two coats of clear coat or sealant (If you think 1 coat looks fine, then just do 1). Next, I purchased leather and strap material (see a fabric store or hobby shop) and drilled holes in the back of the pack and installed washers, nuts and bolts to attach my straps. Finally, put it all back together and other than some little additions of foam pieces on the vacuum rod, that's pretty much it. I went the extra mile and installed a switch that controls a light I installed and also controls the vacuum. I also installed a small mini Bluetooth speaker so he can use my phone or any Bluetooth player to play his own Luigi's Mansion music (the switches and speaker require soldering, cutting, and some basic electronic schematic circuit skills...however it's totally not necessary. Your little boy with LOVE it even without these extra touches). And finally - the costume was just purchased on Amazon. THERE YA HAVE IT! Let me know if you need anything else and good luck!

It has a switch that can turn the light on/off and can also independently turn on/off the vacuum. Also installed a Bluetooth speaker inside so he can have his own personal soundtrack

Did you do the custom paint job on the this? If so, what techniques or products do you use or would suggest to remove paint from plastic that will not damage the plastic? Thank you
@gmoneydixon

Yes, all the paint is custom. The original vacuum was light blue on the back and yellow on the front. The vacuum handle and all was different as well. I used as many pictures from the actual game to base my color choices. All the paints are spray paints that are made for plastics. I used a primer made for plastics and then lightly sanded with fine grit sand paper. I then added 2 coats of color, followed by a couple thin coats of clear coat for a gloss.
