I have a dog, part poodle and something else, and her fur gets matted. I discovered one day while she was taking her nap, I could very easily and gently snip off those little clumps. She'd be snoozing away, which made it very simple to do. Maybe a half hour later, all done! She never knew. Try it.

I use suture scissors. They work the best for me to get those outside hairs tugging on their skin

It is one thing to be gentle with the cat and another very different thing is that you only rub it and wet it not bathe it well.

Using scissors on your cat is extremely dangerous. Its particularly dangerous to remove mated hair because the mats are so close to the cats skin that there is no way to know where the hair stops and the skin starts. It speaks for itself. All of the techniques described in this video are in an effort to avoid injuring the cat. When you do inevitably injure your cat the risk of infection is much higher because there is an accumulation of bacteria under the mated fur that is attracted there because of the moisture, dead skin, dirt and grim, and lack of grooming. It will also be substantially more difficult for your veterinarian to provide emergency care to your injured pet because of the obstruction caused by the mats that remain which will take time to remove before treatment can be provided leading to fur-ther (sorry for the pun, I couldn't stop myself) loss of blood, possibly leading to fatality. When your pets health and safety are on the line its important to do as much research as possible. Never follow the advice you hear after watching a single KZitem video. watch as many as it takes until you have seen techniques repeatedly from multiple sources and if you find something sketchy its very likely that you will hear other sources advise against it. This video is a purr-fect (sorry) example: if you continue to research this topic you will hear from multiple sources how dangerous of a practice it is to use scissors to remove matted fur from your cat.

No matter how gentle I am,my main coon girl gets very temperamental when I try to carefully trim off matts around the hind quarters. She cusses me and can sometimes lash out with her claws.Shes fine when I remove matts from her neck area, but not on her back legs and under the tail.

I just had to do this to my cat I still am not sure what she got on her it was syrup or honey I believe. It was in the same area as yours but that area on her is extremely sensitive so she doesn't like anything except occasional light petting. I can't believe how unphased yours is. What a sweet girl. I really admire you helping street cats.

My gf got a cat that was living outside and is covered in thick mats all down her back. It’s winter here in NY so we are trying to find a good way of removing them. She’s such a sweet cat, I’ve bathed her a few times and although she doesn’t love it and tries to escape the tub she hasn’t gotten aggressive at all but the poor thing has to be so uncomfortable. I’ve tried to brush out some of the matts but no luck and I think she’ll need to be shaved once the weather gets warmer but I’d like to help her some till then. Wish I could comb some out

I have a question ⁉️ I've had my long hair, she really doesn't like people, not even me, but I've her for 7years, she 6months old when I brought her home, she is a "B****"- I know she loves me, after all these years, she still like don't trust me, or just doesn't like me.... I'm not sure about how to get her to let me touch, pet, comb😮😮

Wow I’m surprised you got the mat out like that with scissors! I have curved scissors just like you but all the videos say use a shaver not scissors. So I bought a shaver. I’m working slowly. My cat has about 6-7 clumps. And this is my first experience with this. I’ve been hesitant because I’m afraid I’ll cut him. But he was distracted with a toy so I was able to work on him without him moving too much. If the toy trick gives out I might entice with a lickable treat. Thanks for posting this video. I have a little more confidence than before to remove all my cats mats.

admittedly this kitty is very mellow and was happily eating as I trimmed the mats. Shaving is a better choice if the cat is reactive.

Slide a flea comb under the mat FIRST, then cut against the metal teeth and you will not cut skin. Cat skin is VERY thin and easy to nick.

An easier way is to just keep cutting the top of the mat until untangles itself or you get to the bottom of it.

Chris Christensen makes a pre wash degreaser if this ever happens again, you can always wash just like a spot treatment, use an old salad dressing bottle for shampoo and water, usually you can rinse off the back with a faucet or sprayer without too much of a struggle. That way they don’t end up ingesting any oil by accident:) I’d still definitely recommend cutting it off like that if you can, then you’re sure to get everything:) for ppl who don’t want to you can use degreaser and then wash and rinse. I’m pretty sure this cat wants a bath though lol :)

It's stupid when kitten in bath because if the kitten covered in water the kitten will DIE.😱
