Why don't they drown at every turn of the bell? Do you have a snorkel ball or something?

What kind of fins are most of the open water distance competitors using? Fin brand and length? I am looking to buy fins for a 4 mile (6.437 kilometers) open water race. Any input is appreciated - thanks.

Most sprinters without fins don't take a breath in this race. So why are these guys swimming with their snorkels?
@Antohaaaaa
3 ай бұрын
it is mandatory, and is regulated by CMAS rules. participation without a snorkel is not allowed. Even though athletes do use snorkels, most likely they don't breathe during 50m.

What is the yeollow thing they have in font of them? I know the monofin from rescue swimming competitions but I've never seen this yellow thing. It's actually harder than it looks to swim with that type of monofin. I was a trained swimmer and rescue swimmer. We sometimes used fins in training but these fins are way harder. It needs time to get used to. In the beginning I got cramps after just a few meters even though I was a trained swimmer. But it was so much fun being a lot faster with these fins. I never knew this event exists. Now I'm too old and sick for anything competitive but I still love the water 💚

Fastening a plastic fin or tail on swimmers would be like fastening springs on feet for high-jump competitions. How could we actually see true and honest human performance with fins attached to swimmers or springs attached to jumpers? Competitive sports encourage higher standards of achievement for the athlete; attachments like fins and springs do the opposite.
