I saw Spinal Tap when it came out as a 15 year old. The “this goes to eleven” on one of the best. So I am not a musician. So I was, and my then girlfriend who also loved Spinal Tap, about jumping for joy when we stumbled on one of the Marshall amps that went to eleven was sitting in a pawn shop in Iowa City just off Iowa’s campus. This was 1991 and too rich for my blood but was still fun to stumble upon.

I saw Spinal Tap in the 90’s, Derek Smalls had a double neck bass. Both were 4 strings and tuned exactly the same. Comic genius.

Christopher Guest totally captures the vibe of a rock star. If I didn't know about the movie I would be tempted to believe that he's really a clueless rock guitarist.

My Grandfather hated electric guitars & Marshall amplifiers; mainly because in the early 50's he had invented a proto-type gas guitar. Unfortunately, the pilot light went out on stage at a gig and exfixiated the front row. Their was a small lawsuit and he lost his patent rights. So sad Pappaw was not recognized as a successful inventor. He should have been famous! Hope Les Paul & Jim Marshall are happy! 😏

Sorry to have to top your story but in 1920 my grandfather invented the wood-burning guitar. It wasn't successful sad to say but it did lead to his next invention, the on-stage smoke machine.

Great idea Nigel. In order to take it to past 20, we could use twice as many tubes plus a Nigel MosFet amplitube circuit times fifty. just to make sure. I have the plans. Reach out anytime. #11X100
