Wow, i never expect the best students to actually be the most open minded but this one is a pearl. She has a chance to become a real breatharian that lives in a mountains far from civilization. Dear speaker, never seek an answer from a system that is put in place to deceive you, experimentation is the key to achieving the enlightenment.

I looked up this video after reading a reference to you in one of Connor Boyack's books. Incredible insight for a public high school graduate! I was a valedictorian in 1999 and I tell my children today I was just really good at taking tests. Your words back then have stirred up this mom of 8 today to reapproach homeschooling with a greater liberality toward inspiration of the individual rather than performance toward mediocre standards.

Nothing like being 11 years late to the party but I just saw this video. To anyone who cares to read my rant (and hopefully it is some people much younger than I), Time to return to the days of trade and apprenticeships. People sitting in an office making more than the people getting dirty and putting their lives at risk in hard labor is bass ackward. Teens are so much more capable of learning than the education system requires of them. Look at how many can figure out the newest electronic device or hack into network systems. They can learn to drive in a couple of weeks but yet some still can't do simple math or read by 11th grade? The fact that students are falling behind and failing is intentional and evil. This is the product of a warped education system setting up a feeder system ensuring its survival while keeping the masses stupid, brainwashed, and dependent. And that is just grade/high school. Oh! And then College?! Universities are sanctioned money laundering mills stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the students and turning them into indentured servants to the federal government and raging Marxists. If the first 8 grades were more intense like they were 150 years ago, teens would be able to finish school by 14 and college (if they chose to go) before they were 19. How about we spend those years teaching them how to be good and productive people and to be reasonable/responsible adults; not encouraging them to borrow 100K for 4 years of beer pong, cheap sex, and a useless degree in grievance studies. Has college helped me? Questionable to maybe. I do teach part time but my field is more trade related. Nothing I learned in college could not be learned on the job. In fact, I have learned more on the job than in the class. If I had a business I can honestly say, I would not hire a college grad. Many today cannot think for themselves. I would rather invest in someone who has the capability to problem solve without being told what to do. I sense education is aiming to be the next bubble to burst. It's sad. My grandparents had an 8th grade education and died multi-millionaires as "lowly" farmers. I would love to see more of that kind of example today.

Bravo. I have been saying this more or less to people for the past 40 years. I have 3 grown children who are all artists and I never once encouraged them to get good grades, or do homework. No regrets from me or them. I always told my children to be wary of the people out there who steal your creativity and just want to make you robots. Thank God for you young lady. Well done!

As a recent college graduate, you are spot on. I relate to your experiences and feel the same way about the education system. I feel more confused than ever in life and I don't feel as if I have dream jobs. I used to have dream jobs but they faded away as I progressed with schooling and got too comfortable with the school-rest routine. I wrote a blog post on my experiences with school so feel free to read it: monotonousinsomniac.com/2020/09/23/how-school-screwed-me-up-and-took-advantage-of-my-reliance-on-routines/

If more students and valedictorians draw inspiration from similar ideas of this speech, we as a whole society would be far more prosperous and not influenced by corporate or political interests. I finished high school in the class of 2007 but still keep in touch with my old classmates. My valedictorian is now a finance administrator at a healthcare office and I am a military service member. However, can either one of our professions really be considered more "prestigious" than the other? Success takes many forms and shapes and it certainly does not need to be defined by the size of one's salary.
