There is nothing unique about the kit besides the microcontroller board itself. Its all just parts made by random Chinese companies stuffed in a box. The Mega itself is great, but so are all the other Mega clones I have. If you don't have tons of odds and ends to tinker with it's a good buy IMO.

How do you get any tutorials that show you how to do anything? I got the kit, but the CD don't work in my computer. And when i got the stuff from elegoo.com/download, the download of the driver and stuff, pretty much only just come with the driver and like 3 pdfs of how like to set up the arduino thing and what not.

I am 15 and I had no problem although I have been coding since 11 they include code for each project. The only time I have needed my coding knowledge is when adding on to projects. That gets a little more complicated. I recommend you check out the Arduino syntax and memorize it beforehand. If you want to get this for just learning all the base projects you do not need any coding knowledge. A good book for programming the sensors is "Programming Arduino Getting started with sketches" it tells you about the syntax and coding for some of the sensors.

Yes…. no reverse polarity protection so kind of an unfair test to wire it reversed. You can add your own reverse polarity protection but not needed if you wire it right. Would be cool to see how low the voltage goes at 3v out when CC mode is triggered.

I never inquired, from my experience with this they either ask you to send it back which costs 50$ shipping, or they offer you a discount on the next order sort of thing. They have been good about communication though. They keep me up to date on similar products after seeing this video and even listen to suggestions on their products.

There is no such thing as a "real" arduino. All Arduino boards use off-the-shelf components and run on open source firmware. You could make your own Arduino board and sell it if you wanted to.

Are there additional tools that would be helpful when working with this kit or is it all inclusive? Is a soldering iron needed? I am completely foreign to this stuff and am looking to purchase it as a gift. Thank you for any help/suggestions!!
@ohmhackman7365

A multimeter would be useful for troubleshooting. You don't need solder but if you were to make something permanent out of this like a soil moisture monitoring system you would need some protoboard and a soldering iron. To do all the exercises in the kit you don't need any additional equipment

I would get a more basic kit honestly. One with the Arduino Uno. I suggest first learning the fundamentals of electricity and basic components so you know what you're wiring and what it's doing. Arduino is a self-guided learning system, you can go as far as you want with it.

my "issues" with this kit is that there's absolutely NO PROJECTS included, a bunch of the code and libraries are deprecated (last updates 12.9.16). Just a bunch of "...plug this in...", "...upload this code..." and "...look it works ..." maybe ... Be wary of the libraries and code. Best to UPDATE them and hunt for examples/samples from adafruit and arduino.

Lol. There are projects like you build robots and sensors. Those codes and jumper cables are lessons to learn. Also, you forgot you assemble it. Doing it your way. Would make it really hard for someone like myself to learn it.
