Where can you learn this style of dancing?
@IssyEmeney

I'm in Southern England so not very helpful I'm afraid. This style of solo flatfooting isn't very common in these parts. Hope you find somewhere.

Are those wooden soles on her shoes? Is this Welsh or Appalachian?
@IssyEmeney
5 ай бұрын
Those are metal taps, but I more often wear hard leather soled shoes, which is more authentic. The style is Appalachian but with influences from step dancing traditions from all over the world.

Most any kind of dancing is fun and you do this one so we'll. Thanks for sharing. My dad's mom was born in Bear holler Kentucky. I wish I knew about her life and families. Do they do this kind of dance back there?
@IssyEmeney
7 ай бұрын
Thank you Kathy. I'm in England so not sure about Kentucky, but it's sort of on the edge of the traditional flatfooting region. There are many different styles of 'step dancing' so most regions probably have their own form of traditional dance.

Very similar to Irish damhsa ar an sean nós. Sean-nós dance is characterised by its "low to the ground" footwork, improvised steps, free movement of the arms, and an emphasis upon a "batter" using an 8 beat count.

Oh my show us how! Pretty please we ought to be able to cheer up our days with a fun exercise whenever we go into the kitchen...sod the chores. It's a pity dancing is now a hobby or a business and not something we learn as part of everyday life like people once did, everyone taught eachother and it was expected everyone knew how to dance even if they didn't want to.
