Hi Shane I like the way that you have portrayed some ‘realistic’ weathering. After working on heavy vehicles for over 40 years you sort of get the benefits of what and where you find mud etc Everything under the running boards is covered and every horizontal surface is caked. I like the snow effects, subtle but very effective and not over done! Another great video mate thanks for sharing your techniques again!

Thanks Michael! Its always a nice feeling when you get actually real world data from people who deal with these things in real life. And they say it checks out! cheers and happy Christmas

Excellent advice with less is more, add if needed..snow is fresh at first, road travel gets that dirty, slush build up of dirty ice snow.. both on vehicles and walk areas, against buildings.. look forward to watching more as you work & post.. cheers from Florida

Greetings from Ireland! I always try to be restrained in my weathering approach as its so easy to go overboard when it comes adding effects. And can create very messy end results that can really take away from all your painting and building effects now hidden under a slap dash weathering layer

An important lesson here - take your time, build up layers and vary the colors. If you don't like it, go back and add some more. Mud is always a challenge, as is snow, but you were able to pull off both, using a methodical, well thought out approach. Great tutorial, liked watching this progress. Thanks!!

Thanks Jerry! Glad you found it useful and helpful. I think that is the greatest lesson in weathering is just work slow, with small amounts as you can easily fix or change things when its only affecting a small aspect of model. Merry Christmas mate!

This afternoon is turning into a session of watching Shane Smyth build a Bastogne winter diorama with a beautiful GMC truck. I’ll try out your winter vehicle weathering approach on my Meng jeep. Now, onto the diorama video.

Outstanding. I particularly like the way you have blended the three elements of thin and thick mud and the snow effects. Too often you see models being depicted in winter that look like they have been attacked by the icing sugar fairy. Have a great Christmas, and a safe New Year.

Great video Shane! I like the result of the layered enamel plus wet and snow effects. There is a lot of depth to the result, and it really does look like the sloppy crap that accumulates when driving in winter conditions :)

Very believable snow effect particularly on the cargo. Getting it random and with equal density over that large an area ain't easy. If I was going to criticize anything it would be the amount of snow on the hood and front fenders. That's way too much if the engine has been running at all recently, but that's part of the story your diorama will be telling, isn't it?

Thanks very much, I am super happy how it turned out. As for the snow on the bonnet I felt it looked too odd to have bare. Though its gonna be parked up in my dio for this. So its been sitting cold for a few hours
