I've been eating the keto way with intermittent fasting for two years now, and everything Dr. Berry said is absolutely true. I've lost the excess weight, I don't even THINK about sweets or sugar or grains or snacks any more and I eat twice a day with REAL FOOD - nothing in a package, can, box, or carton. It takes a little getting used to at first, but I can't imagine eating any other way now! Did I mention that it's easy and a lot cheaper than buying all the "junk" I used to eat! Now I spend my money on organic, real foods! What a difference! No cravings!

@dunuth
4 жыл бұрын
@@__-rb9st Well it depends and you have to look at the source for each individual item... the label "Organic" doesn't mean much these days. So. for instance if you can source farmer eggs locally from real pastured chicken, that's organic (even if your friendly local farmer doesn't have the money and the workforce to obtain some specific "certified organic" stamp). IF it says Organic on your Walmart eggs, that's usually branding, marketing and lots of lobbying and bribing and manipulating the system by some food corporate.

I never understand people who say it's too difficult or they don't know what to eat on Keto/Carnivore. Smh. My husband told me I would be on this WOE by myself. About 2 or 3 months after I started my journey (I started in January of 2019) he started Keto. He transitioned a lot slower than I did, but not once did he complain. And he started because I didn't push him to do it. I didn't cook separately for him. He ate exactly what I ate when I cooked for myself and if he cooked dinner he was mindful to what he added to my serving because he supportive right from the beginning. Now, we both do Keto/Carnivore together.

De Berry, i’m a registered dietitian and sometimes have to give a healthy diet talk to a patient. I hand them a list of what not to eat (veg oils, grains, starches, sugar, most fruit). I can usually tell if someone really is interested and I have to say, most people don’t, won’t or can’t change.

What are grains and in what foods would these be hidden in? Bread, oats/oatmeal, ? Thanks so much. Also, when a doc has that "talk", I think the patient automatically gets defensive and down on themselves-embarrassed. They are told to change the way they look, eat, feel...it's all they hear, all day long. Not only this, they're afraid of failure. They already have tried more "diets" this year than their friend has in a lifetime. The conversation needs to come from a place of total and complete encouragement, absolutely no judgement, etc. By now, we know these issues are caused by a variety of issues, usually a combination of things. It has less to do with their self-control and more to do with dealing with past issues, additive behaviors, hormones, programming-tv, billboards, commercials, magazines, stores, grocery market, etc. Of course, we need to accept fault and not play the blame game. But, we also have to realize the issue is much more complicated than most docs even realize. This person needs to decide RIGHT NOW is the right time, it's not gonna be a perfect transition but that is what learning is all about. You will learn the healthy way to eat. You just haven't been given the right education, truth. A healthy body will help you make healthy decisions; choose the right thing to improve you! You start now and with time, it only gets easier. Soon, you wont even hesitate when planning meals or deciding to get out for a walk or go for desert with a friend.

because even though people may be in poor health, they get so used to their situation, being a certain way or weight for so long, that they accept it. because it feels normal, for so long. i have tried to give advice to older people and friends with diabetes, but they just say "i'm fine". one got a bypass, and i know is on same road as my 80 year old grandma; she swore carbs were bad, so she ate bananas and lot's of spinach and green beans and little meat all her life to the point she is so bloated and doesn't know why she can't lose weight. her diet = no meat, some cheese, bananas and oranges, high fiber variants of carbs, artificial sweeteners, low carb snacks, whole cans of green beans or spinach. i don't get why carbs are bad, but fruit/sugar is okay ? boasts she is "so regular", but can't lose weight. she can hardly get around anymore now. my older aunt can't figure out why she can't lose weight. she eats "low carb, low fat". she eats fruit, lot's of veg, little meat, and drinks "natural" fruit juice which she swears is better for you. tried to explain to her that any carbs/sugar in form of liquid overload pancreas and leave body fat behind, but she swears "natural !". she keeps telling me if i eat carni, no veg, junkfood in moderation, blue berries, i will end up like my overweight parents. but i actually eat less than all of than them and aunt when it comes to carbs.

My eating got totally out of control during the pandemic, flamed by the stress of working in healthcare, dealing with daily policy changes, etc. I kept trying to fast and just couldn't seem to get my appetite under control so I kept failing. I finally saw a video by Megan Ramos where she had recommended to a client that he eat bacon and eggs for two weeks to get his appetite under control so I decided to try it and it worked within a couple of days. I was amazed, so I did some research to see if it was possible to keep eating this way and I found a whole carnivore community who have been eating this way for a decade or longer. Thank you Kelly, Charles, Lisa and others for sharing your experience. I have since added other meats to my bacon and eggs. I get up very early and generally eat breakfast and lunch or breakfast and dinner. The freedom of picking up a forkful of meat or eggs and realizing that you've had enough, being able to stop while there is food left on the plate is nothing short of a miracle. I can't wait for the holidays this year because I have it figured out now. Eat all the meats, bring deviled eggs, salami and cheese as an appetizer. Two months in and love this way of eating!

The short version of this is three years ago I had a A1C = 12, a triglycerides = 175, Blood Pressure 157/89 and weighing in at 250 lbs. Today I just left my Dr. (who is scratching his head wondering how I did this) with an A1C = 5.3, triglycerides = 89, Blood Pressure 121/73 and weighing 185 lbs and this is without starting any exercise routine "yet". I have been sheltered in place for the last 3 months and trying to find any workout equipment on line or in stores is next to impossible. @6:30 Something that helped me a lot was only eating/drinking artificial sweetener when I was eating anyway. So no diet soda while fasting. Weight loss resumed after that. Your mileage may vary, but for me, it seems any amount of sweet taste makes my insulin go up. Also, cravings are often the brain's way of letting you know you need some electrolyte or another. So if you're craving sweet, take in some potassium or sodium. NuSalt or similar salt substitute is a cheap source of potassium. Beyond that, it's all about minimizing the damage when you do stumble. If I feel that I *must* have diet soda to the point where I'm about to go out and buy it, I'll add a splash of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water and add two drops of sucralose. It's a lot less 'sweet' than a few cans of diet soda.

My appetite is far more in control now than it has ever been since I was a child. It’s true. When I was on the Atkins after a month I would have to remind myself to eat. And having a little bit made me satisfied. I barely felt hungry. I dropped about 60 pounds in 3 months with a moderate amount of exercise. It’s just hard starting. But keeping on it was easy.

@Dr. Berry...can a damaged vagus nerve make it tougher to lose weight, please? I am afraid it is indirectly messing up the hormones you talked about...plus, I now deal with with gastroparesis...which is challenging, also. Thank you for listening, Dr. Berry...love your educational videos!

I’ve been keto for 3 yrs, lost 21kgs in all, but I think I only learned how to eat in the last 2 months.. I’m happy to say that I no longer feel the need to binge eat or eat for any reason other than genuine hunger! I hope this sticks! The only change I made was to increase protein - eggs, organic meat, and also increase veggies (mostly steamed or raw increasing bulk without the calories) I just watched a video on Rich roll with Cyrus Khambatta and Robby Barbaro.. seems to be backed by a lot of science. Would love to hear your thoughts! I come from India, and know that a lot of the population there is vegetarian and I know that some of the older generations live to their 90s on a traditional Indian vegetarian diet. Could the issue be the mixing of high carb with high fat? Curious! 😊

Step 11: start fasting. Fasting all day until either 2 or 3pm helps me keep my hunger down. Then i have another meal at 7 or 8pm. When you dont eat carbs, you can fast very easily, but my fav tip from the doc would have to be the 'keto' treat one. Sweet keto treats can lead to overeating and carb cravings; it's a crutch that i gotta let go of, lol, thanks doc!

Well, I think eating slower will definitely help. I know from experience that the faster I eat, the more I can eat before I get full.

Been doing lower carb since 2019. Not Keto or Carnivore. Finally thought I'd try 'Keto' friendly Pork Rhinds. Got the ones from Sam's, with only the Rhinds and salt no other added ingredients. Problem is, I really like them. I've overeaten them a few times. They may be 0 Carb but those calories add up. As I pass them by, they are hard to resist. But I suspect my body is remembering all the bags of Cheetos, Lays. The big boxes of Goldfish. Interpreting them as 'chips' which is why I haven't tried the myriad of other Keto friendly products. Have had not much of a problem at all passing by the candy, cookie, cake, donut areas of stores. Now I need to work on getting off the Rhinds.

Unfortunately, many pork rinds are cooked in soybean oil, which has the wrong type of fat.

Since I started Keto over 2 years ago , I seem to eat less and less at a meal . The high fat content of my meals make me feel full so fast that I often don’t clear my plate . Last week I didn’t eat all day , I was busy and never realized until bedtime that I hadn’t eaten , and I still didn’t feel hungry . I used to be ravenous 2 hours after a meal , and then the snacking started . I haven’t felt truly hungry since I started Keto .

When I went on low carb diet a couple of years (actually about 4 years ago) ago, for the first time in my LIFE, I stopped having cravings. Not eating sugar solved a lot of my appetite and healthy weight maintenance issues. I was skeptical of the low carb way of eating which is why it took me so long to finally try it. I had tried everything else and always gained the weight back. I still have not gained it back.

Thank you Dr. Berry. All your videos are so informative and helpful. Some information I know and may have forgotten so the reminder is just what I need. Some information is brand new and it's like "Wow...How did I not know this lol???" Not sure if you've made a video about this, but I would love any tips on how to eat when you have a hiatal hernia and gastritis. I feel bloated and full very quickly so I've had to learn to stop eating before I'm full to avoid excessive uncomfortable (and unsightly) bloating. Eating is not enjoyable 😩

Been low carb/keto all adult life. Same weight for 40 years - 6ft 1 and 158 lb. Eat once a day, but here's the thing - I am never hungry. I eat good meals but only because my wife cooks them. On holiday abroad I was on my own training for a half marathon and thought if I just waited until I was hungry, how long would it take. Well after 3 days I was still not hungry - maybe the hunger hormone is not working. Weird!

1) Stop Drinking and Eating All Sugars. 2) Stop Eating All Grains. 3) Stop snacking, 4) Stop Eating Baked Goods, including the ‘Keto-friendly” almond and coconut flour treats. 5) Stop using any sweeteners, will put you in a Cephalic Phase. 6) Get better sleep, we all are different in what we need. Not enough sleep can cause you to snack all day, 7) Control Stress. Learn how to deal and control your stress. 8) Eat more Healthy Fats. Eating enough healthy fats will help you find your “sweet spot Satiety”.’ 9) Eat more Protein in your diet. Eat animal-sourced proteins. Proteins will not make you fat, they will not damage your liver, kidneys or your body. 10) Eat until you are FULL! Do not undereat or calorie restrict.
