Not being choosy and using what we have with care - to allow and encourage ourselves to be grateful for what we have.

No. 9 is my job. I try to achieve regular meditation, but let myself be distracted by life again and again, but I know that meditation is good for me. I keep working on myself.
@tj5308

1. Generate peace by proper thinking, speaking and acting. 2. Don’t be choosy in what you eat. The purpose of food is to sustain the body, not to indulge in pleasure and fun. 3. Give up bad habits and develop good habits. 4. Think where and how you can do better. 5. Look at your conduct from the outside, from an ideal point of view. 6. Ask yourself, “How much more do I need?” You won’t be able to take all your possessions to the grave. 7. Remember about Karma. For every action there is a reaction even if no one sees you, and good actions bring positive results. 8. Think what good you have done today. Don’t forget that time is passing. Train yourself fast because our lifetime is limited. Do what is good now. 9. Live peacefully and quietly physically and mentally. Like you clean your body with a shower every day, set aside time for meditation in order to clear your mind from fear, worry, anger and other emotions. Let them settle down. This will allow you to see yourself, other people and the situation clearly and save you from trouble, chaos and conflicts. Be by yourself and let your mind rest even for a short while. 10. Improve your meditation each day. The goal is to train your mind to see yourself, other people and things clearly, to see the reality. The tool for this is meditation. Your mind should be peaceful. You should calm yourself from inside out, develop yourself. To become a loving, kind and compassionate person genuinely, your mind should be peaceful, bright and positive. Slowing down, getting still, looking at how you’re living, what you’re doing, coming to a stop, seeing things for what they are, becoming conscious, mindful and aware is a key to success. Otherwise, you’ll be always reacting the same way you used to.

I'm very grateful for your channel. I've been wanting to quit my job quite a while because I'm not happy. My husband has some concerns but overall said I should do what I want. I wasn't able to make that final move and have been living in depression. I blamed it all on my husband, my job, my boss. Today something hit me. I am not living in alignment with my truth. I thought I'm doing it for others. But what I really should do is align my thoughts with my speech and action. I couldn't make the call to quit just now, but I decided to change my priorities. Instead of putting the job that's making me miserable first, I'm going to put what's truly important for me first.

I wish food was purely sustenance for me. Instead, it's a comfort, a distraction, a best friend, and a worst enemy all at once 😂 Even though you view food as purely sustenance, Ven Nick, do you allow yourself to enjoy food that you would have enjoyed as a lay person? Or is that not okay/in line with the precepts? For me, it'd count as entertainment and substances that alter my mind lol
@samuelavraham4909

It is very simple if you think about it, whenever you consume things, is it done to distract yourself from stress? Is it done because you pursue sensual pleasure and delight in it? Or is it done simply because "there is hunger present and it's hard to concentrate"? You can eat whatever as long as it is ethically sourced, the important part is your "intent".

Hey Venerable Nick, I really enjoy your videos and insights! I love to learn about Buddhism in general, but I value your perspective as someone who lived a lifetime as a typical person in a typical world before becoming a monk. People like Thich Nhat Hanh and the Dalai Lama are certainly wise, but their lives were lived in a separate way, from very early on. Which brings me to my question: Have you met anyone who you would call enlightened?

Thank you for the video Nick. It's interesting that you mention Karma in this video. As a westerner I'm skeptical that something like Karma exist, but since I have attempted to sleep in a see of merit it has switched my mindset to focus on helping other people. Since then a lot of good things have happened to me almost by coincidence. I know that good things don't last forever, but my personal experience has opened my mind to the idea of Karma.

Ven Nick, I have written gratitude lists before and somehow "Today...." seems to result in ease and delight in doing this, calling these 'gratitudes' to mind. Yes, stillness, slowing down. It is work, and not easy. Old habits of self-aggression, a mind that spins stories of retribution, seeing the habitual defensive and warring posture. Speediness, greediness. Suffering creating more suffering. Your speaking of becoming a monk from the inside: I ask myself more frequently, what do I want to create-more suffering? For myself or another? (I feel the fact that I can even remember to ask myself what my intention is is no trivial step-regardless of how well or clumsily executed.) More practice, with compassion. Thank you, with a grateful heart-

Revision day. 6/9/23. Teacher I have been thinking, should I go for another new job experience. To challenge myself. To develop myself. Should do enjoy working at my current work. It allows me to serve and help people from a wide spectrum. Rich poor vulnerable. However been thinking to explore serving the vulnerable elders. Have been meditating on it. Still no real answer.

I can’t say I’ll ever be a Thai monk. I’m vegan and would NEVER eat an animal. I don’t get how monks willingly consume death. You’d think that would be bad karma. Everything else seems perfect.. it’s a shame monks don’t have moral and ethical principles around it..

Dear Nick, As usual, this was a very helpful video. Thank you for sharing you wisdom with us. I feel blessed that I enjoy my alone time, so meditation is a gift I give myself. Hopefully, one day I will release those “ minutiae” thoughts that infiltrate my mind. I know, keep practicing ! After the recent “apocalyptic “ events, happening around the world I take nothing for granted. Enjoy the moment🙏🏼❤️

Thank you, Nick! I guess what resonates with me the most is to constantly remind myself to not complain about what God serves in my plate and to consider it with care and tenderness. It is the epitome of the "attitude of gratitude". Also, I love how this video talks about how we should fixate on our thinking, speaking, and behaving. Hearts for everyone!

It's all clear and understandable. It remains incomprehensible, how can I not "hate" my fellow human being ,who tells that people in Ukraine (or elsewhere) deserved the bombs on their houses and hospitals and schools and that the war is just and legitim? Or the other who beats his dog or abuses his wife, how can I remain indifferent to that and not get "angry"? How can I suppress the anger when the forest or the river is destroyed to increase the profit of corporations? Tell me, how can I ignore this and develop "compassion" towards these people? And how can I get not "angry" about myself "" , because I cant manage, not to get "Angry" about these things?

Just understand that as long as we continue to have anger, green, and delusion, we will continue to have these issues. That’s why we must train or so diligently and get rid of those things within ourselves first.
