Never heard about japanese go to Kentucky on Christmas. I used to live 7 years in Tokyo and I know roasted chicken is kind of a tradition in japanese families. My japanese wife says no!

Thanks for sharing your experiences! I assume it's not that widespread then. Like not all Germans will hang/ hide a pickle in their Xmas tree. But some sources claim that KFC has about 3.6M visitors on Christmas (although mostly take-out), Wikipedia says Christmas Eve makes up to 5% of annual sales for KFC Japan. 😳 And we agree with your wife: we wouldn't go to KFC for Christmas food! :)
