Possibly the greatest “what-if” president, even more so then WHH. I believe that what he had wanted to do as president would’ve set the country many years ahead of where it would end up going. Truly a man ahead of his time in terms of thinking and why we could use more younger politicians on the national stage

He sounds like he would have been a wonderful president had he lived longer. In a sea of corruption during the gilded age, it would have been interesting to see at least 1 full term of Garfield’s.

Garfield is one of my favorites. I feel that we would be in a better place had he lived through his term. I even feel that he could've been a two-term president.

He commanded a regiment at the battle of Chickamauga, and was very much moved by Major General George Henry Thomas who despite being a slave owner stayed loyal to the union and lost all his loved ones and family because he chose to side with the federal government. He became the greatest advocate for George Thomas to be made Major General in regular army after Battle of Nashville as he commanded coloured troops and his views on race relations changed while he advocated for civil rights for coloured people. He said in a speech that Southerners should make Thomas their idol and not a traitor like Lee or Jackson
