I disagree with the Midsommar analysis. Wasn't it made pretty apparent that they seek out specific people and have specific rituals? The way they brought Dani into the fold worked like many cults do. So the new outside May Queen will always be someone they have manipulated and brainwashed into acceptance of the rituals. Look for a vulnerable girl with no famly in a bad relationship? That's cult 101. If you manufacture some of the situations which Pelle seemed to do a bit before they even went to the compound and definitely after, it's pretty clear he was sent looking for specific types of people.

With Skeleton Key, I would say the first time could be "survival" even though it ended two children's lives, but after that? They were just hermit shelling into new bodies to basically be immortal. They didn't have anything but time to run away from. As for Midsommar, I think they add new people often enough during the pilgrimage, but the while Dani thing was special, that festival did not happen every year, if it did, it would be too suspicious with all of the tourist who would be disappearing after saying they were going to a commune in Sweden.

Yea they mentioned in the movie that this festival only occurs every 90 years. They also mentioned how they combat the incest problem by bringing in other people sometimes for procreation and also using the incest kid for something who apparently paints pictures which determines what they write in their sacred book? So from the cop’s pov the boy intentionally killed the sister especially when he actually did look towards the sister (in the brother’s pov he was looking at the mirror). What the cops should really be questioning is that why is the sister standing so stiff staring at mirror when she could look through the mirror to watch what her brother was doing.

I mean not really tho with „from hell“? That movie isn‘t even supposed to be a horror movie considering that (without the gory details) this is actually a real story. Jack the ripper‘s goal was never to „get away“. He wanted to go far and beyond everything known about the human body at that time, without getting caught. As well as get revenge for being failed by the community of doctors for becoming an outcast. Not to forget the traitorous act of messing with the heir of the crown (which included getting the little girl Alice). He managed to do not a single one of those things. Jack‘s identity got revealed considering by the inspector. He didn‘t manage to get to Mary Kelly and little Alice to complete his massacre and kill the heir of the crown. And neither did he get the act of revenge he was hoping for. All in all, I‘d say „From Hell“ is one of the films that deserve it the least to be on this list.

The baby is born, and alive and well at the end, so yeah, I'll say that is a win for them. Jigsaw in Saw: Some of the sequels could be included too, but biggest win was with the first one, as everything worked out just as he wanted it to in the end of the first film. You do realize that most villains are innocent initially and then become bad, right? Not all of them of course but there’s A LOT and that doesn’t make them any less of a bad guy in the end because they chose to hurt innocent people who did nothing wrong to them. Aside from the example of The Skeleton Key (and yes they are 100% cruel villains in the end because of what they did to people that were just trying to HELP them), another example similar is the movie called Annabelle. The real parents in Annabelle were not evil or villains when they were alive, but they turned into villains afterwards. They didn’t just get revenge on the person who hurt them and killed their daughter. They chose to hurt an innocent woman who did absolutely nothing wrong and was just taken as an infant and raised as Annabelle even though the real Annabelle was murdered by her mother’s husband because the mother cheated on her husband with a black man. A villain isn’t someone who is just getting revenge on truly evil people. A villain is a person who hurts innocent people as well and they become the same type of evil as the people who made them that way to begin with.

Because although the sequel kinda undoes the „villians“ win, Insidious 1 definitely deserves to be on this list •the descend -I think this one is pretty obvious isn‘t it? The cave monsters believed to be of human nature killed everybody that entered the cave, except for one: our main protagonist. And even though we don‘t know if they did get to her after all, we know that no one ever left this cave. •truth or dare -I‘m the most surprised about this one, by how obvious its ending fits this list. I mean literally the whole planet is now infected by the game, leaving us to imagine the downfall of human society on our own.

Yeah that's why I never could understand the sequel to Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy's Revenge because he actually won in the first movie. I guess it was all about that cash grab.

I guess it depends on how you interpret the ending of the first movie. Did everyone die in the end? Did Nancy get her friends back, but the price was her mother’s life? Did Nancy just dream that she got her friends back, but it was a trick so that Freddy could keep her out of the way while he killed her mom? And if Nancy was supposed to have survived the first movie, then did Freddy really win? Like I said, a lot of ways to interpret the ending.

"Most movies sees the villain defeated" I disagree, most horror movies end with the main protagonist returning to set up a sequel

Not a horror movie but Pinocchio is one of the scariest Disney Movies this side of The Brave Little Toaster. That's cause the villains kinda get away. Granted, Stromboli loses a huge business opportunity when Pinocchio escapes, but at least he has his show. Similarly, all the Coachman loses is one donkey out of hundreds, all of which were previously kids. Most disturbing case of child labor ever, and he keeps the ones who can still talk, probably cause they could testify against him. But the way he describes his plan has disturbing implications: "They never come back as boys!" I... really hope the name "pleasure island" is just coincidence.

I'd point out that both Goke: Body Snatcher From Hell and Hausu both end with the villain winning. Both of the cult classics from Japan are part of The Criterion Collection FYI.

The woman with the short hair in Dead Silence was in this movie called “They.” I saw it maybe 15 years ago about these creatures that lived in another dimension in the closet. And they track their victims by putting these needles in them. I only thought of this cause they sort of won as well.
