The Martians compression weapon is sickening. Empress of Mars I think was the episode. Basically crushing you into a ball of flesh...urgh. I found Sister Jatt’s death scene from New Earth episode terrifying when I was little. The way the diseased zombie patient came to her, touched her face and Jatt giving a terrifying scream while the disease was growing on her face was traumatising. Actually the only death on Doctor Who, I found really frightening was being absorbed by an Absorbaloft. Sure, the effects made it a lot less scary but think about it. You've been eaten by another being and it has total control over you. You don't just die. Your mind is slowly absorbed over time.

For me I'd say Time Heist is one hell of a way to go. Your brain is just made into soup. What made that episode even stranger and a bit scary in my mind is that this is a legal practice there. I think the worst part of Linda’s death, being in the moment, was silently watching the Dalek utter the familiar word; it being the way you finally knew for certain: she wasn’t safe at all. One of a bunch of excellent uses of actual physics to make a moment more creepy; like the meteor crash in “Dinosaur” (2000).

You would get to keep on living, but you would have a miserable life compared to what you would have had. The characters in the show managed to make it out relatively well, but the average person appearing in the 1950-60s without a valid ID, no money, and no resources would probably live out a short life as a homeless person in a society totally alien to themselves. And even if you somehow did manage to scrape together a living, you would be haunted by the memory of everything you lost access to.

I'm sure no one else is going to mention it, since it was kind of a middling episode and Chibnall's become quite unpopular with fans as a result of his turn as showrunner... but the deaths in the episode "42" actually seem like they'd be pretty gruesome to me. I mean, think about it-- of all the ways to go, burning to death is probably one of the most excruciating and terrifying. And most of the victims in that episode were incinerated to ash, leaving only scorch marks behind. "Burn with me" indeed. Nasty way to die.

As much of a bad reception the monster got, I do think being absorbed by the Abzorbaloff was a pretty bad way to go. Your entire body is pulled into his, after just a single touch. With some of these other deaths, there are at least ways to avoid it. But once you're absorbed, there is no escape. What's even worse is that your are still conscious, with your face appearing on his body, it is implied that your mind will slowly fade away into nothingness over time. All while you are fully aware of your inescapable fate.

What about regeneration? Every regeneration the doctor dies, every cell dying and being replaced by another one completely new. That's gotta hurt.

You forgot the Teller in Time Heist. It could liquefy a person's brain inside their skull, which would, then, cave in.

The deaths in The Christmas Invasion had better be here. Those were definitely terrifying.

Resurrection and Revelation of The Daleks had some pretty gruesome deaths.

The most terrifying death is that of this show.

The boneless was by far the most unnerving for me. I don't know exactly why, I don't usually get those kinds of feelings when watching shows. However this struck a cord I think.

One episode that really scared me as a kid was the game shows in the episode of "bad wolf". Oh, and also the empty child.

The praxeus infection deaths , scared me at first when watching the episode, but after a while, I reminded myself that it was all just CGI

I feel like an Angel snapping your neck is the biggest insult, cause it’s essentially saying your life would make such little impact that’s there is no point in sending you back in time to feed upon

There is one thing that has ever truly scared me from this show and it is the Waters on Mars episode so i just knew it would appear here...

The most terrifying and shocking death was the death of the show itself over the course of Jodie's and Chinball's run.

A shout out for Sarah Kingdom, caught in the Time Destructor's radiation, and so ageing to dust. The Kandyman's means of execution - scalding his victims to death in a flood of boiling sugar - always struck me as particularly nasty. And of course, 12 - not necessarily for the means of his 'death', but the sheer quantity of them. Whatever it was the Veil's touch did; crawling for days and dying by inches; remembering every time that he had burned himself to create a new one, but doing it again anyway...Maybe not 'terrifying,' but pretty damn' horrific.

I sew a special feature on a classic Doctor Who DVD once that explained the toilet plunger thing was supposed to be material that could suck onto anything and they show a b&w 60s clip of companion Barbara having a plunger behind her back. They said it didn't really do the job they were going for.

Imagine already dying to being exposed to the void of space only for, in your last moments, to be painfully blasted by Daleks.
