You could add in the entirety of the 2001 season here: Mikey winning the 500 (even Dale's death aside was still emotional), Steve Park winning at Rockingham, Harvick winning at Atlanta as shown, Jr winning at Daytona as shown, Jr winning at Talladega, and also Jr winning at Dover after 9/11, Robby Gordon in the makeup race at NHMS due to 9/11. Just the whole season was emotional for so many different reasons, between losing an icon and a national tragedy, and miraculously healing from both

Dale Jr.'s Last Race in 2017, that brought me to happy tears to know he'll enjoy retirement, Dale Earnhardt Jr. would do what his dad did at the end of the 1998 Daytona 500... And I felt so happy that how he did, same with Jeff Gordon, whenever I heard about Jeff Gordon's retirement, I was very sad to hear about that that I was crying.. But, knowing Jeff Gordon is enjoying retirement and doing commentating on Fox, I just got over it and now I am going for Austin Dillon big time.

@@rcracer8872 alls I got to say is ingenuity has and always will be at the forefront of auto racing. Everyone cheats. A lot of the legends cheated. Just not everyone gets caught. From extended fuel lines, a car shaped like a banana, T Rex 24, to Sr dumping Terry Labonte in turn 2 at Bristol. And the Chase may not reflect an entire season but that 48 team won under 3 different formats of that Chase. They stepped it up and earned the title in a new era multiple times. That should be commended. No one has done that and been that dominant in the Chase for the 16 years in it's existence. Also the competition was much closer in the Jimmie Johnson dominance era as well. Not to take away anything from Sr has his 7 was in a different era from Petty (as there were 50+ races a season vs 34 to 36 during Dale's winning days)

For me, the most emotional moment I experienced was Dale Jr snapping that 143 race winless streak at Michigan in 2012. The way we dominated that race it was pretty obvious he was going to win. But the last 20 laps felt like an eternity. I was so nervous that there was going to be a late caution and the drought would continue. When Dale took the white flag I breathed a sigh of relief and broke down. In 2009 and 2010 I wasn’t sure if I was going to see him win again. There a lot of close calls in 2011 and the races leading up to that day in 2012. I was overcome with emotion and just so happy to see Jr in victory lane again.

The video of Alan's hauler taking a lap and then heading home without being used was a big tear jerker for me.

As an Earnhardt fan the 1998 Daytona 500 will obviously hold a special place in my memories. It was Mike Joy's first time doing the play-by-play for the 500 (the previous 19 on CBS had all been with Ken Squier on play-by-play), but Mike certainly delivered some memorable quotes at the end of that race. "20 years of trying, 20 years of frustration..." and "Every man on every crew has come out to the edge of pit lane..." Some moments that weren't on this list: 1. 1993 Miller Genuine Draft 500--days after Davey's passing the Earnhardt crew knelt in prayer for Davey's family before Earnhardt began his polish victory lap after winning the race. 2. 1993 Diehard 500--the emotions were high in the 1st race at Talladega after Davey's passing where they had a pre-race tribute to Davey and it also had a short-lived return of the Alabama Gang, as it was Neil Bonnett's first race since Darlington in 1990. 3. 1993 Hooters 500--(it was an emotional year, cut me some slack) after the season finale, championship rivals Dale Earnhardt (Alan Kulwicki) and Rusty Wallace (Davey Allison) both carried flags paying tribute to their fallen competitors in a side-by-side polish victory lap. Bob, Ned, and Benny made the right decision just to watch quietly and let the pictures of the tribute speak volumes. 4. 2001 Dura Lube 400--Steve Park, driving the #1 DEI car, winning the 1st race after Earnhardt's passing 5. 2012 Ford EcoBoost 400--Brad Keselowski finally gave the Captain, Roger Penske, the Cup series title that he'd been pursuing for decades.

The majority of these lists suffer from short-term memory. Rusty winning Atlanta in 1993 and Earnhardt winning the championship with afterwards both driver's taking a Polish victory lap. Rusty flying Davey Allison's flag and Earnhardt flying Alan Kulwickie's flag. Tiny Lund winning the Daytona 500 subbing for an injured Marvin Panch should have a mention too.

Mine was in 2018 at homestead.making Miami speedway, where joey Logano won his first championship and beat the so called big 3 that night.and watching all big 3 drivers after the race in there interview not saying a dam word to or about joey beating them.to me now that was really disrespectful of all 3 drivers then and now, after that night night I lost all respect for Busch,Harvick and truex ever more.i loved when the broadcaster said about joey well whose laffing now, that night it was the big 3 and me.and he might have won the battle but he won't win the war, well ha!!!!! Truex joey did win the battle and the war to.so you and the other big 3 can crawl under a big rock somewhere and cry your eyes out now right 🎆✨🏁🇺🇸🏆🤣👍👌‼

The 2017 Truex championship in Homestead will always stick out for me. I was actually taking a train home, but I was crying on that train. His girlfriend was battling cancer. His owner had suffered a heart attack and could not be at the race track. A key crew member of his died that fall. And yet he won the title. The only time I can think of (other than this) when a team was able to triumph amid such great tragedy would be the 1999 Yankees, who saw their manager (Joe Torre) battle cancer, and three of their players lose their dads (one of them, Paul O'Neill, losing his dad on the day of the World Series clincher).

I always thought how much more emotional it would’ve been if it was a Jr, Waltrip and Harvick 1 2 3, I could imagine Jr hugging the front of harvick’s car, the closest he’d get to hugging his father again.

“Hate” isn’t the right word, but I can’t think of a better one, so it’s the one I’ll use. I hate that Harvick’s win is viewed as more emotional/important than Steve Park’s win. I get it was a big deal because it was Earnhardt’s replacement, and his crew, but Steve Park literally lost his team owner one week prior and went out there and won. Harvick was basically nothing to Earnhardt, whilst Park was handpicked by Sr to drive the #1 car. Harvick’s win was nowhere near as important, and I’ll never understand how anyone can think so.

If I'm not mistaken....I believe when Harvick won in the 29 for the first time it was only his third race. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I remember watching it with my G-PA

Putting Dale Sr. Death aside, i think the most emotional moment for me is the 2001 Daytona 500 where Darrel Waltrip called his brother’s first win. That surely gave me tears.

CBS actually told Ned to root for his son over to TV broadcast. Ned actually later spoke to and apologized to Dale Earnhardt and Earnhardt said "I'm a daddy, too".

Alan Kulwicki's transporter doing a tribute lap at Bristol in 1993. He slowed to a stop at the finish line as the checkered flag was lowered one last time. It wrecks me to this day just thinking about it.

Another emotional moment I would put in, Alan Kulwicki's truck doing a ceremonial final lap of Bristol, after the 1992 Cup Series Champion was killed in a plane crash enroute to the race in Bristol in April 1993. As Eli Gold said in the 1993 season review: "(...) with sleet falling, making the atmosphere even more sullen, fellow competitors and fans stood in silence, as the Kulwicki race team transporter slowly made its way round the half mile Bristol International Raceway. NASCAR's assistant flagman, Mike Chaplin, saluted the champion by waving the chequered flag one final time,"

I was watching that one live on t.v. It was like 1 in the morning because of the rain delay, the restart, the flip... I was sure I just watched someone die on air. I just held my breath and when Jr.'s crew ran over and gave the thumbs up... my God I was so scared for Austin. Thet was one hell of a race.
