Great list but I'm a little surprised. My number one would have to be Z at the ASC 2016 doing 4 reps with the 205kg log and looking like he had more in the tank. Not to mention after a max deadlift too. The only other man in the field to get 1 rep was Lalas. Every other man used the lighter log and a stacked lineup of great log lifters. Even in 2019 the heavy log used was 195kg and 2 reps was the highest number. Most dominant performance I've ever seen.

My favourite event performance was Big at the Arnold's from 2014 to 2016. He managed to get four reps of the Austrian Oak (441 lbs, 450 lbs and 451 lbs respectively) in three consecutive years, meanwhile most of the competitors couldn't get even one rep. In 2014: Lalas - 2 reps Oberst - 2 reps Shaw - 2 reps Burke - 1 rep Radzikowski - 1 rep. In 2015: none In 2016: Lalas - 1 rep.

In my opinion, the car hold has always been very impressing to watch. I have seen some car hold events from around 2000 WSM. One with Pudzianowski was crazy when he started screaming and also Pfister and Magnus Samuelsson were amazing to watch. Maybe it was WSM 2002 or around that time. Also the Arnolds 2017 had some very heavy events. The unbelievably heavy Super Yoke and frame carry must have been the heaviest events in strongman history. Shaw has won both of these events I think. But one of the craziest things I've ever seen was Mateusz Kieliszkowski in a Farmers event I think in England where he was so fast with very heavy farmers that they slided after he put them down and they nearly hit the camera man. That was insane.

The MOST impressive performance I’ve EVER seen by a wsm athlete was Big Z in the overhead medley in 2014 vs Thor. (Loz was in this competition). For me the number one best strongman feat (not in comp) was Eddies deadlift training video, pretty sure it was for the 500kg lift. He started at 135lbs and did deads with guys loading the bar at the top. I think he went all the way to 960 then back down with no pauses. Amazing!!
@cerealkiller7143

When you say "deadlift" Eddie's name just has to come to your mind. In my opinion he is the biggest deadlifter of all time. And, before some people start saying "Muh Hafthor", "Muh 501" and whatnot, if Makarov pulls 502 will he be the greatest deadlifter of all time? For me, no.It is not (only) about numbers. It is that, when everyone was fixed on the 460's, Eddie manhandled 500. But the most impressive thing of all and the mark of a true legend was his aura. Going against Eddie on the deadlift was like going against Tom Stoltman on the stones; you knew a priori how it was going to end. Huge deadlifters were fighting for second spot while he repeatedly set new standards for the sport. Finally, it was not only his strength and his numbers but also that he has studied this particular lift so much he is able to instantly recognise who has the potential to be an elite deadlifter. That said, obviously Eddie can be surpassed and probably will be surpassed. It is not about the numbers though. His crown will be taken by somebody who is able to dominate the event just as he did, be it in five, ten or fifty years and when that happens it will sure be very entertaining to watch.

2:40 The timing on this event is a bit suspect, where the last keg toss being lower gives you substantial time savings, which really isn't a measure of strength or hardly athleticism at all, finesse I suppose. Timing by when the last keg leaves the hands, much better way ihmo, Brian got his last keg off about 0.3s sooner. Just as it would happen, Thor's last keg had about 0.6s less air time.

Thats why the video is called "the best event performances" not strongest moments. Beating the WR brian set was an amazing performance seeing that the previous record was beaten by quite a lot and then thors comes and beats it again. It was a great moment in strongman. @@SpiderWaffle He wasnt penalized for throwing the keg higher. The clock stops when the last barrel touches the ground. Everyone competing on the day know the rules. @SpiderWaffle

@@eduardzandberg960 That's one way to look at it. I think Thor's incredibly low final keg is maybe the luckiest events in strongman history. Tom Magee’s 1985 1180lbs 18” Deadlift that stood as the record until Eddie beat it. Janne Virtanen’s Husafel stone run in 2000 after Magnus Samuelson and Martin Muhr’s killer performances. Janne was crazy dominant that year even more so his countryman Jouko Ahola was in ‘97, and to me only second to Pudzianowski in 2003 where he fucking crushed literally everyone by something like 20+ points. And just because I am tremendously bias, Phil Pfister’s overhead stone press ‘06. (First year I got to see an American win WSM, and besides Pfister’s got a great name) Speaking of 2006, and you mentioned hands and power stairs.. made me think of Raivis Vidzis. There have been some horrible hand injuries in Power Stairs and Farmers Walk but that one for me took the cake.

Hey Loz. I agree with and was glad to the Arild Haugen inclusion! To this day still one of the most impressive stone runs ever. I tried looking up what happened to him a few years back and all I found was something about a couple pro boxing fights, but not even results. For Big Z, there's so many, But with the 2011 Log, I would add the Austrian Oak performances of 2013, 2014, and 2015. Just unbelievable consistency.

Great, great list Loz, but may I just throw out that Mariusz Pudzianowski SCREAMED himself away from passing out during a car deadlift hold in 2000 to take 1st place in the event by 2 seconds.

Brilliant video! A few of my favourites: Z with the Austrian Oak at the Arnold's in 2015. Just made it look easy while I think no one else even managed on rep. Then Mateusz this year on the frame carry was just so fast it was like a sprint. Eddie 2017 with his 216kg axle was immense as well.

I'll take Brian's and Z's hummer tire deadlifts for 100 Loz, 1132 and 1156 lbs respectfully.

Kieliskowski is the single athlete that I think has the highest number of mind-blowing performances. His stone to shoulder 4x when only one other athlete got it once, then breaking it the next year with 5x; his overhead press medley in 2019; 150kg Circus Dumbbell WR; Arnold Classic Europe 2019 Arm over Arm; Arnold Classic 2020 Frame Carry... Any of those seem like feats that may never be repeated and he could have taken up half the spots here IMO.

what about 2014 wsm squatting by Z and some of Mariusz walking events with for example Africa stone in South Africa?

Great list Loz! Great work. A part 2 maybe? I want to include Derek Poundstones natural stones run (Luis Cyr stone) from Fortissimus 2008. Absolutly amazing.

One that stuck with me was Zydrunas annihilating the power stairs on the 2nd day of the WSM 2015 final. He'd dropped a lot of points on the deadlift on the first day (think he was maybe carrying a back injury?), but the comeback looked on when he won the stairs, with log and stones to go. He won the log too to take the lead but sadly didn't perform on the stones. He'd done enough though to finish second between Brian and Thor. Epic contest!

I'd put Derek Poundstone's Louis Cyr stone lift from 2008's Fortissimus at number one. Absolutely unbelievable, probably the most amazing lift I've ever seen.

Loz I have always loved strongman and because of covid free time I watched every WSM competition this year. I have lifted weights since I was a kid nothing real serious though. Thanks for all the great videos. I am 46 years old and put on an extra 10 quality pounds of muscle this year and I'm hoping to make my own wood log this winter. All summer I was a stone lifting, tire flipping, weight dragging pretend strongman!😀 Thanks for all the motivation.

Great listing Loz! Just because you are the one building the list doesn't mean you can't be on it... to not include yourself would be leaving a gap in historic performances. I think just "Kaz 1981" could have been it's own entry. The first keg toss... though it was a load for everyone else, the squat and the double on the winning silver dollar deadlift just to show how light it was... fun to watch! Brought back some good memories. Thanks Loz!

Have just been skipping through the video prior to watching it properly to see if Arild Haugen's stones run was on here. I keep forgetting he was squaring off with you, Loz! I'd definitely add Mateusz's natural stone lift in the Arnolds - was it 2018?
Big Z's Arnold 2016 Log Press was far more impressive. Only one guy managed 1 rep with the original 454 lbs Oak. Z did 4...for the second year in a row. Then the Arnold did something they never do: made the log lighter.

Hey Loz, if you could get Ab Wolders for Talking strongman it would be awesome. Underrated strongman with some great performances.

Mariusz carrying ding for distance back in 2007 (05' possibly). He was just casually holding it and smiling like a baby with its candy ;D haha. Memorable!

I'll say that I thought Thor and Licis doing stones at the 2019 WSM were both incredible. What could Thor have done if he'd been fired up and had a chance of winning? The last stone looked so easy for both of them. Ilka Numisto's back lift in whatever contest it was (1990?) was amazing to watch too!
