If you do a commenter's edition, it might be worth considering Blackwood. A professor moves into a haunted house with his family and starts work at a new university. His mental state slowly gets worse, and as it does the hauntings get worse and his relationships with his family and coworkers begin to break down. I thought it was great because it plays with the idea that friends and family ignore your flaws, and you ignore theirs in return. Everyone gives him the benefit of the doubt for his flaws, which they know all about, and as he stops giving people the benefit of the doubt his relationships suffer. I had a coworker go through something similar (without the haunted house) and it struck close to home. And The Killing of a Sacred Deer might be worth considering, not purely psychological but there is enough psychological horror to make it worth considering.

Session 9 is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. The final line from that movie is one of the most memorable I've heard and super creepy when you put it in context with the other 'sessions'. I disliked Men. It was far too symbolic and metaphorical with very little explanation at all of what we experienced. It feels like a lot of shocking imagery and weird creepiness that only the director seems to understand the actual meaning of. Haven't seen the extended Dumplings, but the short was creepy enough. The whole thing with the secret ingredient is one of the most unsettling things I've seen in a movie. Not on this list, but I think should be, is A Tale of Two Sisters. My absolute favorite horror movie and maybe one of the most psychologically unsettling I've seen. Such a good movie. Goodnight Mommy is another that I really liked that has a few similarities, although that one is a pretty slow burn until the second half, when things get wild.

I forget the name of the movie, but there's one about a pregnant woman who develops pica. It was hard to sit through, watching this woman swallow nails and marbles and other things. Another one is called 'Victim' about a r*pist who victimizes the wrong man's daughter and gets his poetic justice. Recently I watched 'Glorious' and that was an experience. But J.K. Simmons playing an unhinged demigod was definitely a treat. Not a "psychological horror", but 'Torn Hearts' deserves some shine. Katey THEE Sagal playing a bad guy - YES!!

I like this list....mostly. While I like Willem Dafoe and his over the top performances very much, I strongly disagree with anything redeeming about Antichrist. In my opinion Lars Von Trier is the most overrated writer/director going, and I am a lover of dark movies. Yes, the cinematography is always excellent in his movies, but to me he spends so much time on style and so little on substance and seems like he's even worse at making a movie just for shock value than even Gaspar Noe. As far as Gainsbourg goes, it also feels like at this point all she can do is play these similar overblown, "tortured" woman roles in Von Trier movies including unsimulated sex. I would nowhere near classify her performances in these as even comparing to those of Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves, Nicole Kidman in Dogville, or even Bjork in Dancer in the Dark (His only movie I've ever actually fully enjoyed). Antichrist in particular just felt like a study of how much you could take as a viewer. The writing nor the performances offer enough to make it worthwhile
