To be fair, Daisy is a different character from Peach, (Daisy is from the Gameboy game "Super Mario Land.") and "Koopa" is actually Bowser's original Japanese name, but it was mistranslated as "King of the Koopa" so NOA mistakenly thought it was his species, and renamed him "Bowser." Regardless of it's faults, and liberties taken, I unironically enjoyed the SMB movie. It even had some clever game references like the Snifits, and Mario confronting King Koopa on a bridge.

So we had no extra money to do anything while waiting to see jurrasic park, and one of us decided to sneak into mario bros, and open up the exit doors to get the rest of us in, so we would have something to do while waiting for the amazing dinosaur movie. As a kid, I knew this movie wouldn't work as a representation of the video game franchise (how could one at that time make live action goomba's, for crying' out loud), so every difference they made to the appearance and such made sense to me. As a movie, I enjoyed it, and still do to this day. Super Mario Bros. as a video game franchise is a series that I enjoyed, but never got so gung ho about to the point that everything had to be absolutely precise. I could understand the differences that were made, and never complained. To people who would complain, how could they possibly expect to make a live action film featuring Bowser, the Mushroom Kingdom, and even Yoshi without making it look stupid. They did what they did, and I don't think it was bad as a movie. As a representative of the franchise canon, it doesn't match up. But as it's own standalone movie, it's great. But that's just me.

Unpopular opinion: I loved it as a kid and think it holds up. It was a dark and twisted take on The Mario Bros like we’ve seen done a bunch since with other properties, especially fairytales. I got excited to see what twisted version of a character would show up next when watching it. “Ooo ooo that’s Toad with the harmonica!!! Yoshi is an adorable t-Rex!!! Big Bertha the fish is a giant black woman who enjoys clubbing! Their last names are Mario! That explains why they’re called the Mario brothers instead of something else. The fungus king is making the city into a mushroom kingdom like the mushroom kingdom in the games!!” Fun times.

@MuljoStpho

This has been a big point that's stuck out about it for me as well. Before the movie came out, the entire history of the franchise was just everything from Mario's origin as "Jumpman" in the Donkey Kong arcade game up through Super Mario World (and maybe also Mario Kart?) on SNES. Games like Mario RPG, the Paper Mario series, and the Mario & Luigi series were all years away from happening, so the full extent of all storytelling in the franchise had pretty much only ever been "rescue the princess". The world of the Mushroom Kingdom (which admittedly the sets in the movie don't come anywhere close to capturing the look of) had mostly (aside from SMB3 and SMW's map interfaces) been depicted only in 2D sidescrolling platformer style with very little processing power to spare on background details. It's pretty easy to see how the movie's creators would have seen a lot of it as pretty much being a blank slate. They had a few names and rough concepts to work with, and that was it.

I know what would make a great video game movie and I believe it will be successful in the box office, and that movie is..... The Legend of Zelda! I believe this movie will be as big as Black Panther was! Because anybody who's a video gamer and who has ever played Zelda would know that a live action movie would be a Smash Hit!!! That's just my opinion!!!

I agree. Especially because legend of Zelda is an epic fantasy. I could just imagine what that world would look like on screen.

I'm sure you already know this by now but i'm still gonna share it 😃. The Mario Movie actually got a sequel in the form of a short lived webcomic that ran from 2013 - 2015. It saw the bros teaming up with Daisy, Toad (no longer looking like a Goomba), and a mysterious asian scientist named Mouser, in order to take down a deranged scientist named Wart. The characters of Wart and Mouser come from the Super Mario Bros 2 video game. Due to scheduling conflicts with an artist, the comic didn't continue. Recently, the webcomic got revived by it's original team, the Super Mario Bros Movie Archive, along with a new artist.

Hollywood always reboots and remakes successful movies of the past. Movies like Super Mario Brothers that were hated by fans and bombed in box offices are the kinds of movies that should be rebooted and remade. I don't know why Hollywood doesn't do that. Everyone knows the director dropped the ball so it should be common practice for someone else to try to save the brand
@standardofexcellence
5 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking tbe same as they can only be better, the problem is hollywood sociologically by nature think too much of what everyone else thinks and too little of vision, leadership, and character so in order to make this they would have to think outside the box or the wallet in this case in order for it to be made and as succesful as one of the remakes that was actually good financially (they only risk badly on the one's that are, but Everyone knows those)
@roylinfordadams

@@standardofexcellence to be fair with the rise of Marxism being shoved into everything coming out of Hollywood, even though low box-office turnouts and oceans of bad reviews have been showing that fans do not like it, Hollywood continues to push it. Showing that they neither care about their wallets nor about what the public thinks.

It's about the bottom line. Why remake something that lost money when you can remake something that made money? Its a quick payday. I agree with you on what should be remade but the powers that be in Hollywood see it differently unfortunately and as a result remakes and reboots seldom have the same financial or critical success as the original.

honestly Tom Hanks and Arnold Schwarzenegger would have been absolutely amazing in the rules. Think about it, can Cooper just this giant horrifying lizard creature that would have been appropriate for Arnold since and Theory Bowser wouldn't have a lot of lines. And seeing how Luigi is a character, Tom Hanks would have killed it as the character. if you take a good look at the original designs of the movie they were going to be a lot more faithful to the video game, however that wife and husband director team f*** that up for everyone because they wanted it to look like something that shouldn't have happened.

People need to get over themselves and deal with the facts. Super Mario Bros. was excellent, The Village was M Night Shamalyan's greatest flick and Waterworld is the most criminally underrated film of all time.

Nick Falkner they are called the Mario Brothers, implying that Mario is their last name. Since their first names are Luigi and Mario, then their full names are Luigi Mario and Mario Mario. There are real people that have similar type of names like Robert Roberts.

Man a Metroid movie would be awesome!!! Flying glowing alien jellyfish cometh!!!! Could you imagine our female heroine running through some derelict base finding a freeze gun add-on not knowing what to do with it. And then seeing a large open circular area looking up with aliens floating around... seeing her try to freeze them to jump from frozen alien to frozen alien to get up the shaft!? Maybe using some sort of device that can sense heat signatures that would have to be destroyed before a temperature type door could be opened to get to the core of the base to blow the alien infested compound up but that's where Mother Brain is located. Keep it simple stick with the original game material. Maybe some extra characters orbiting to help with her extraction after say 2 other people that were with her group die at the hands of the bosses or... something leaving just her to finish the job.

I don’t care what this guy or anyone else says, this movie was so imaginative and took a really creative direction in making a backstory behind a video that never actually had concrete story to begin with. There might have been a lot of critical hazing and a creative animosity in production but I honestly think it created a perfect storm.
