My first car. Bought one used in 1969. Had a lot of fun in it until all the electrical stuff stopped working. With the back seats folded and the partition opened to the trunk, there was a flat space the size of a queen sized bed. Great for camping....Camping, yeah right!

That may be the most badass interior ever fitted to a muscle car. What menacing beast. That front end looks like it will eat your dog.

everyone thinks this was inspired by the marlin, the barracuda was first then Charger III concept cars in production. This is the full size muscle car of 1966 that went into production.

@PJudt Agree with what you said, but I think when it came to the first Chargers, they were looking at the Marlin hard. AMC & Chrysler were sort of joined at the hip (in my opinion) towards the late '60s. The Rebel & Polara looked similar as well. AMC had the first 'Big Bad' colors, Chrysler followed suit shortly afterwards (High Impact Green being one). I like both auto manufacturers, as well as GM & Ford. Go America.

Beautiful Car - Wonderful Restoration - I had the 1967 White with red interior, but this black with black interior is really nice. My 383-Magnum dual point distributor could bury the speedometer at 150mph- some state police interceptor is still looking for me. LOL Always liked this model with non-stock wheels as mine had chrome deep dish Craegars with Mickey Thompson J6015's? or L6015 on the rear with ET spoked on the front- a funny car look which was aways impressive. Great to go back in time with this. That rear hatchback area (in a pre-hatchback era) was great with a sleeping bag, and roomy - once you folded the rear seat down-awesome. Thanks!

@kolbpilot Really? What was the Marlin's inspiration? The Plymouth Barracuda, Chevrolet Fleetline, Saab 92, Tatra T87? Your statement may be a bit over said.

I am curious about what appears to be a toggle switch directly to the left of the steering column on the instrument panel. Any idea what this switch controls?

727100bear There are 2 switches to the left of the steering column. One switch is for the 4 way flashers and the second is the switch to flip the headlights around. My 66 did not have the head light flip switch but there was always a blank spot int he dash for it. As I dropped the car off to have the body restored just today, I happened to look down on the floor and there was a brand new switch labeled headlight rotate or flip or something along those lines sitting there in a bag. Guess we will have to reinstall that switch where it belongs!

joekr1979 cool thanks for the info - love details like that and I never would have guessed the switch was for the headlamp doors - a separate switch - my dad bought a 1970 Plymouth Fury Sport Suburban wagon brand new and it had concealed headlights (a first for Fury that year) but one switch turned on the lights and opened/closed the doors too - and doors did not make a complete flip as on on these great Chargers.
