I edit wedding photos. That means that I edit somewhere around 600 photos per wedding. I use a program like Lightroom, but I don't use Lightroom. This is because though Lightroom exports photos about 3x faster than the software that I use, it actively edits photos somewhat slower. Speed editing photos is very important when you are doing 600 photos at a time. If it takes you just one minute per to edit 600 photos, you are spending 10 hours editing. I can always do something else when my photos are exporting, like watching KZitem videos such as this one. Multi core export time takes a distant backseat when you are editing photos in either Photoshop, Lightroom, or the editing program that I use. Multi core export time is almost meaningless to someone doing photography. Load time for photos and editing time mean a lot. I am seriously looking at the 12600k for my next computer.

If you don't upgrade every new chip gen, this cpu is a little monster, GN, Tom's hardware, etc. show the same results, it tends to be faster in MT than the 7700x while being 120usd cheaper, and makes both the 7600x and 7700x look like terrible value with the promise of future proofing. In both cases you save about the same amount of money, intel 600 motherboards are quite noticeable cheaper than amd's, and with the high cost you would be paying for an overpriced chip like all zen4 besides the 7950x and their motherboards, you can simply spend the saved money later on if you want to change chip again.

@@ishiddddd4783 Oh yea, don't get me wrong one bit, 13600K is really awesome for the price! I'll recommend either the 5800X3D or 13600K to ANYONE that needs to build a reasonably priced system right now, depending on their use case and budget. 5800X3D has got the gaming big time and fairly alright productivity on a cheaper platform, and 13600K has got the productivity but still pretty solid gaming experience. As for myself, What I plan on doing is waiting for the end of a platform, such as Intels next socket or AM5, then get the high end parts for it. When my 5950X becomes my old high end system it will make for an incredible spare. Upgrading every generation is a total waste usually, but I'm admittedly guilty of this when it comes to the AM4 platform, due to the huge gains each gen and the fact that I recycled the parts to family members. I feel pretty good with the 5950X. Before that I started with the 2600X then moved to the 3900X. I'll wait for the last generation of AM5 and Intel's next platform before I dare upgrade, maybe even just skip AM5 and intels next two sockets all-together.

@@pentaborg871 im in the same boat, im upgrading to the 13900k since im coming from a 3600 and before that it was a 7500, and after that im keeping the system for a bare minimum of 4 years, and if something is changed its likely anything else but the cpu and motherboard unless they are damaged. future proofing became a bit redundant with how powerful this chips are, and even with the gains that we are gonna keep getting, in real usage it's gonna translate to a few minutes less in renders/compiling, or more framerates when already in the range that surpasses the monitor refresh rate. With all the leaks that have been shown, intel is hoping on 3D chips and lga 2551 is allegedly gonna last at least 3 generations, so for people upgrading next year they will have even more options from both brands. if someone already own a 5950x, i really don't see the point of jumping into AM5 unless they really need those extra minutes or fps, i hate that mob mentality that you need to upgrade or ditch a platform because a new one is out, like if that chip becomes garbage when in reality it's gonna be more than enough for plenty of years, by the time im ready to upgrade again, am5 is likely in end of life along lga2551

The IGPU is great in this thing. I used it for streaming on twitch and the vod came out perfectly. No need to put extra strain on your cpu or gpu, even with nvenc; let them handle your applications and the little UHD770 will happily sit in its corner and encode everything no problem. I did a 720p stream (cause not affiliate), 6kbps, perfect video quality, playing flight simulator. No dropped frames, no juttering, no nothing. The 13600K looks really interesting price performance wise, even more so when you consider it can still make use of cheaper DDR4. But I wonder how the cost of operating in a 24/7 scenario (my main computer is always on) between the 13600K and the new 7600 on 65W TDP. I get there is computing gain to be had with the i5. But i'm not doing much video editing (certainly not for work), so the encoding advantage is wasted for me. The power usage is double or triple on the 13600K compared with 7600. So my main usage is DAW (Ableton and Maschine) and play Cities Skylines (which is mainly CPU heavy, single-thread heavy). And I'll be using the iGPU for the first 6 months, until I see some lower prices on the RTX 3070/3080's (or whatever is a sensible choice by then). Would the 13600K still be a good choice in such use case, considering the cost of purchase vs cost of operating?

No, you're wrong. TDP doesn't mean anything - forget about it. Go look up idle wattage. If you are just chilling with a bunch of tabs open and a youtube vid playing at 1080p... maybe excel or something open you will probably be using around 10% cpu usage. Intel KILLS AMD in terms of idle power consumption. Also it's easier to lower the clock speed on Intel when you don't need the power. AMD with the chiplet design makes it impossible to limit idle power draw because of constant communication of cpu and ram and the i/o die. Ryzen box design of the snake eating its own tail is appropriate imagery for the endless burning of energy. I only game 10% of the time, and it's easy enough to cap voltage and clock speed so the CPU doesn't run at max during gaming. (The only thing that makes me sad is going with Intel here is going to finally force me to leave Win 7 since I'm not willing to use modded drivers on my daily computer.)

The 6w iddle wattage on the 13600K but it still eaches 180 watts during maximum performance (ie gaming and video editing) vs the 130 watts of the 7600X. It's still a lot. Oh, and the 7600X idle wattage is only 18w.

Not really! The 12600K is still a great CPU but if you are upgrading, go 13600K as it is really a 12700K on steroids! Not far off a 12900K in some cases and if you go Z690 D4 motherboard you can reuse your DDR4 ram like I have so saved quite a bit of money...PS I wouldn't contact that response as it could be a scam...

Can you compare the 13600k vs 12900k? There was a few videos online but not for creating. I think if someone was trying to save a few dollars but still get great performance; it maybe better to use the 13600k vs 12th gen.

From my point of view: Go with gen 13. 13600k it`s better than 12700k and you just needed in the past 12900k if you do multitasking.

Hey man, I've been following you for awhile now, and have been molding my newest build based on yours and your reviews. I do want to ask though, what are some good coolers for the 13600k? I'm eyeballing the Glacier, and man, $180 for a cooler is pushing it for me.. would the 240mm variant work as well? I'll be doing a good amount of video editing, gaming, and music production on it, not really EXCLUSIVELY video editing.

@@theTechNotice awesome, I'd been looking into the Arctic Liquid series but the radiator width is FAR too big for my case. The Glacier looks like a solid rad for my use case. Are there any others I should consider? I also checked out the Galahad but that's another expensive component

I am glad that i did exactly that with 16gb of ram in my 10 year old pc now. It still runs everything. :) Greetings, Jeff

you might have had better performances with 3600mhz cl14 ram on the 5900x, having a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio with the infinity fabric is better than more speed also the advantage of the 5900x is that you can just put it in any am4 motherboard, so one could upgrade from a 1700x or 2700, and you can get it running on sub200 motherboard

I'm gathering parts to build a PC using the Gigabyte Z690 AERO G DDR4, an i5-13600K, and 64GB DDR4 RAM. You mentioned the memory controller specs for DDR5, yet I've read that the new Raptor Lake processor specs show it can run DDR4 RAM up to only 3200. Will the faster (3600) RAM make any difference in performance, or should I buy the slightly cheaper 3200 devices? I'm planning to buy two 32K sticks, so I could upgrade to 128GB (4 sticks) some day.
