Britain's only train service to run at 140mph is Southeastern Railway's service from St Pancras to Ashford, Margate, Dover, Canterbury and Ramsgate running Class 395 Hitachi built 'Javelin trains'. If you aren't lucky enough to live close enough to sample the service, enjoy the view from your armchair as we enjoy the section between Ebbsfleet International and Ashford International stations in Kent - hitting the 140mph mark in many places. The 33.45 miles are completed in 18 mins 15 seconds at an average speed of 110mph, which makes this one of Britain's fastest scheduled rail services.
The Railway Performance Society (RPS) records and keeps a record of UK and European train performance. The fastest recorded time between Ennsfleet and Ashford to date is 17 mins 38 seconds by a Class 395, and 16 mins 47 seconds by a Class 373 Eurostar train.
