I forgot to mention I have the Harbor freight QH and have used the heck out of it with no issues. Even with the pounding of rocks on the tiller and I have Rocks! Big Rocks and lots of them and this thing has held up well. So why spend the money on the so called name brand when I could get 4 of the harbor freight ones for less than one name brand? I just don't HATE my money that much.

I just bought a LandPride RTR 40” tiller and the included driveshaft was 3” too long to fit on my Kubota BX2380’s category 1 hitch. I watched your video right before heading to Harbor Freight to buy their quick attach and I do believe they revised the top hook to give it more clearance/distance. Working like a charm now! Thanks for your video, very helpful for me!

I picked up the same one. Instead of putting bushings on all of my implements, I found a couple pieces of pipe with an ID of 3/4”for the top and 7/8” for the bottom. I cut the pipe in half lengthwise and then in half the same width of the hooks and welded them into the bottom of the hooks like shims/saddles so when the standard pin lays in the bottom it mates up firmly. It works perfect. Seemed to make more sense to modify one part instead of several others.

I’ve got the harbor freight quick hitch. I thought it was good enough until I tried to hook up my bush hog RDTH 60 finish mower which is the most common implement I use. The same issue you had with your. I also needed to go buy some bushings for the bottom two links. Update- I was speaking with a friend and he recommended buying a longer top link. I have 2 quick hitches. A Harbor Freight QH on the old Farmall C and a Farm Hand by Lee on the Kubota M5660. The HF QH has been in use for about 6 years and has functioned very well after I made a few "adjustments". First one was the top hook situation. I welded a block on the backside and re-drilled the holes so that the hook projects out from the QH frame by 3/4"-1"...can't recall at this time how wide I made the block. This made all the difference in the world and I see that Ken's Bolt On Hooks now offers an aftermarket top hook for the HFQH. I also replaced the bolts that hold the top hook with quick pins. The second situation that I discovered just last year is that the lower pins supplied with the HFQH are too small. By this I mean that they are less than 7/8" diameter which is the CAT I standard. I believe that they measured 20mm (0.787") so they were sloppy in the swivelly balls on the draft arms. To correct this, I bought a new set of CAT I lower pins from Blain's Farm and Fleet and then modified them to fit into some new tabs that I made from flat stock with a bend in them to wrap around the QH frame just like the original ones. Next, I drilled out the holes in the QH to 29/32". Reassembled everything and no more sloppy fit. The Farm Hand by Lee is bullet proof right out of the box and will fit a CAT I or II tractor, has an extended top hook with quick pins, has a welded on 5/16" grab hook on each side, and 3 Reese Hitch sockets welded on that you can affix bale spears or any number of things limited only by your imagination. It came with a box full of pins and bushings and the fork type attachment for use with implements such as your finish mower with the floating top connection. Made in the USA for $687. As you discovered, bushings are necessary for the lower pins to fit properly in the QH. SpeeCo now makes a QH with lower hooks that fit 7/8" pins directly with no bushings required so it can save you a bunch of money in bushings if you have several CAT I implements. I am a machinist so all my bushings I make myself and are FREE.

I put this on the bottom of the 3/8 shaft and tightened the set screw. Now the is no chance the pin can come out. Two pieces of flat bar drilled to match the top hook holes with two spacers the thickness of the mounting bracket to allow mounting on the outside of it instead inside the bracket will move that top hitch out away from the bracket on the Harbor Freight quick hitch. Measure the thickness of the bracket that has all those mounting holes to get the spacer thickness needed. The flat bar can be that same thickness. Cut four pieces. Drill four holes. You’ll need two grade 8 nuts and bolts to bolt on the extension you make from the flat bar.

That Harbor Freight upper hook is a well known problem, but it can be overcome if you want a cheap quick hitch. There are hooks on the market that also fix it. What is puzzling is this has been a problem with the HF quick hitch now for years and you would think they would modify the hook. But there are ways to get around the hook problem without spending money.

The reason your top hook is holding the weight is because it needs to be ground out. That is the main issue with HF unit. Also, you are missing the bushings to make your pins large enough to quit slopping around in the bottom hooks.
@bryceg5709

Instead of buying the special bushings it's just easier to shim the bottom of quick hitch. A couple quick blobs of weld will do it or one guy drilled and tapped a hole in from the back and then an screws in as an adjustable shim. I cannot imagine many cat 2 implements you would run on one of these.

B2601 w/ LP15QH The only difference i can see between Land Pride and Harbor Freight is color and country of manufacture...aside from price. I used slip on bushings for all three points. I also use pins on the top link (hook) where you used bolts. As for me, it needs be up near the top setting for the three point mower and on some large undululation it still comes unhooked from the hook. Pins make it a quick adjustment for setting or resetting the top hook. Also, pallets not only keep your 'appliances' off the ground it helps with that little bit short it sometimes seems when hooking up. Boxblade particularly. Good channel. I just recently found and subscribed.

Thanks great video. Good information and honest review. Seems like The Good The Bad and The Ugly with the Harbor Freight quick hitch. I was on the fence would have seen similar videos and that seems to be the recurring issue with this hitch. I think when you start adding up the category 1 pins and you have to add and well as modifications all of a sudden it doesn't seem like take a deal. I guess if you're a welder in like the tinker and mess with things you can modify it and make things work. I do know there are other quick hitch Brands out there which do not require in the modify the Cat 1 pins. I think there's a top link extender which could possibly work to fix one of your issues. I also saw a video with someone grind it down that top hook on the quick hitch to make it work. Anyway I enjoy the videos keep them coming. Thanks

Just came across your channel and subsequently subscribed. Some interesting info on there as I have been considering buying a sub compact tractor. I am on just shy of 3 acres so not sure if I really need one rather than just want one. Anyway, I enjoyed learning from you learning. Greeting from Scotland by the way. Thanks again, keep up the good work.

How about replacing the two bolts on top hook with pins for faster adjustments or drilling holes in the bolts to accept a cotter pin. As for the top hook with the mower, looks like you need some way of locking the pin in place like the lowers.

Good suggestions. Several others have suggested buying a deeper hook that’s available on Amazon. Thanks for watching!

I was wondering if you tried the PTO Link quick connect attachment. I'm a below elbow amputee and I just purchased one for my Kubota B2601 and a 5ft land pride finishing mower. The normal way is very difficult with my prosthesis. I've been an Amputee for 33 years and I'm always looking for something to make things simpler and easier.

Hi Hector. I have not tried that product but I've seen it advertised. That must be very difficult for you. I'd be curious about your opinion of the PTO Link if you use it.

Could you weld a spacer on the top hook and extend it out the 3/4 of a inch? You would just have to redrill some holes.

Thank you. I’ve heard of some modifications like this. You can also buy a better top hook on Amazon.

I noticed that some of your fit issues are that you are not using the CAT 1 to CAT3 pin adapters on your implements. The manufactures of the hitch make ALL those hooks to fit CAT 3 tractors. They arenot cheap but you have to use them for all the CAT 1implements that you use. Speeco is the only producer of 3 point quick hitches that fit CAT 1 out of the box.

Thank you. I did get the adapters for my box blade. You’re right, they’re not cheap. That’s definitely a consideration for the Speeco!

Have to figured out yet how your are supposed to swap your hitch around to make it work on your finish mower yet? It should be in your manual

Hi Bradley. From what I understand, there's another part needed. But honestly, it's so easy to connect without the quick hitch that I haven't worried about it. Thanks for watching! -Ed

I just bought the HF quick hitch and was messing around with the hook and top pin for an hour. I thought about hooking to the lower pin but was a little concerned. After seeing your video I'll be making that adjustment. Also what do you use on the stabilizer links to keep the implements from swaying back and forth? I'm tired of everything hitting the tires.

I ended up getting the replacement top hook from Ken's Bolt On Hooks. Works great!. As for the 3 pt stabilizer, I just keep them adjusted so they don't sway as far. Mine have pins but some have turn buckles. Thanks for watching!
