I was stationed there back in 1970, best duty station ever. Sad to see it so run down now. It was truly a beautiful place back then.

I loved Midway. Being stationed there was paradise to me. One thing that impressed me most was watching the Goonies poop a full 20 feet.

I called Midway home, in 76-78. My dad was stationed there. I attended the last two years of George Cannon school...oh how I wish I could visit again ... The smell of the ocean, the call of the birds, but I won't miss the many times I sprang my ankle tripping into bird holes...😆 Only someone who has been there knows what I mean...😁

I was stationed there with the Navy in 1974/75, and made a single 1-week return visit in April of 2001. Wish I could go again, but it doesn't look like it will happen during my lifetime.

The US Fish and Wildlife service have single handedly turned this once paradise into the dump you are seeing here. The washed up plastic crap was never allowed to accumulate like it is now. Horrible and they need to be held accountable.

Definitely on my bucket list, to revisit my very first Duty Assignment of my 20 year Naval Career. Despite it being Isolated Duty, at the time.....there were certainly fond memories of my time there as part of the Island’s Crash and Fire Crew. 1980-1981 USN Retired 1979-1999😇🙏⚓️⚓️🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭👍

There's no other place like it in the world. Too bad they've stopped the limited access to it. I'd love to go back.

I came through there in 1962 coming back from Nationalist China(Taiwan). It was beautiful and the "gooney birds" were fun to watch.. the two day layover was too short, but it was good to head back to the U.S. and home to my bride.

One BIG reason to hate Midway, those of us who have lived on Midway and now see how the Fish and Wildlife people have destroyed what once was a beautiful island.

On Midway July 1964 to Jan 1966, my dad was CO so we lived in what is now called "Midway House". It was just building #414 in those days. I would definitely go back for a visit if I could but with as much as FWS has screwed it up, I might find it hard to last a week. A year and a half wasn't bad all those years ago.

I was stationed there for six months (August 1967 to February 1968). If possible, I would like to go back, taking my wife and son with me, during the months when the gooney birds are at their prime.

Sorry to see Midway so run down. But it's getting back to where the important thing is the wildlife. Sad but happy. I was there 1964/65. A lot of fond memories but now it's all about nature. Happy but sad.

with the preponderance of thousands of birds, sending airlines there to land is too dangerous.

I was stationed there from 1971 to 1972 as an Air traffic controller. Loved the island and people. One of the best duty stations ever. So much to do on such a small island. Golf, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, sailing, watching sunsets on the beach, gymnasium, movie theater, NCO club, midrats at the chowhall and more.

When I lived there, back in the 60's, they also had one of the worlds smallest birds. Fairy Turns!! They were hard to find, I have a picture of one, in a tree. Very hard to even see. White goonies were really friendly, while Black goonies would attack you. They lived on the other side of the Island.
