Today we present you the fifteen things you didn't know about Turkey. We traveled for three months continuously around the country, visiting countless places, hitchhiking and staying with many local families, so we learned a lot about Turkey. If any of them come to your mind that we haven't mentioned, please mention them in the comments...
- They love board games : In tea houses and cafes it is very common to see a group of Turkish friends playing board games: the most popular games are Backgammon or "Tavla" and Burako or "Okey".
- Men and women travel separately on public transport: men-only and women-only seats and mixed seating are available. On the first bus trip we took in Turkey we had to travel separately for this reason: there was only one seat for women and one for men.
- The most popular drink is black tea: Turks drink it everywhere and at all times. If they want to welcome you or open a conversation with you (break the ice), they will surely offer you a tea first of all.
- Cats are everywhere: as we have already made a video on this topic, we invite you to watch it. We won't go into it too much today.
- You can't talk bad about Ataturk: he is the father of modern Turkey, he made many drastic changes in the country after World War I (in which Turkey was part of the losing side), among others, establishing the country as secular and a Latin alphabet (instead of Arabic).
- They are super clean: eating street food in Turkey is quite safe because they are very hygienic. They constantly wash their hands, they clean up super well before entering mosques and in places where you eat with your hand they always give you some alcohol wipes or lemon hand cologne....
