Justin, I spoke to a man, a few days back. I was looking for a particular product, then the conversation strayed from there, to this..and then to that...Which led to him saying I HAVE your families grain mill....I was jumping through the roof with joy over that one. 😄You know I am chomping at the bit to go see it!

Allis Chalmers was certainly into a lot of products. I grew up with an AC WD tractor on the farm and we had a chopper, sickle mower, silage wagons, and a miniround baler that went with it. My brother has the tractor and I found another WD that was built within two weeks of that one.

What a cool old mill. There are a lot of similarities to a larger water powered mill in that one. The furniture and gearing is just a smaller version but that is an odd stone setup. I have one of the wooden teeth from an old water powered mill, I guess that mortise wheel was about 10' diameter and not the finest casting but they were making a huge casting for the time. I've been told but can't say for sure that those teeth were usually elm because the interlocked grain helped with splitting. Plaster of paris is neat stuff, it is gypsum instead of lime plaster that we are more familiar with. Before sheetrock the old-time plasterers would "gauge" their lime plaster with a small amount of gypsum to dial in the set time according to the temperature and humidity of the day.
