Good show man. When I come out of the log I grab the handle from the front of the upright and put my arm against the upright to hold it flat as I come out. It's on a video or 2 of mine. I also use a ladder for the first cut. I have a couple of different lengths for this. Good show.

i used a c channel type metal but only 10 ft long and place a piece of 3/4 conduit with it ending up inside the c of both pieces and the nut on the outside then cutting any all thread that stuck out but with all thread thru the conduit to strengthen them i used one on each end and one in the middle this channel i used already had the holes in it i think its some type of hanger material somewhat similar to a stop sign post but much heavier duty im sure it comes in longer lengths but you might have to add a set of adjustable legs in center of the run so there is no dip in the cut im am also using the metal plates you spoke of they were about 28.00 dollars the metal 10 ft long were a gift from a friend he ended up with the short conduit metal 3/4 and the all thread 3/8 short left overs lol

I am excited to follow along with your cordwood house build. I'm not too far from your neck of the woods, so nice to see someone doing it in a similar area to me. Keep up the great work!

That Alaskan Mill with the winch seemed to work pretty good Kirk. Hahaha once you said you were gonna eat it she didn’t give you a chance to back out.....” You’re committed now “ . Looks like spring has definitely arrived up that way. ... finally officially here , although we’ve got snow in the forecast for the tail end of the week.

With lumber price it’s a good time to start using it again. We are about a months ahead of time this spring which has been nice I can get more things done. Thanks for watching

Now that you have used the Land Pride grapple for a while, what is your opinion about its toughness? The local dealer has a used 1072 like yours in good shape for sale. I have a 64hp New Holland with a borrowed grapple on it that I have to return, so it's between the 1072 and the wicked grapple. Great job on the videos. Thanks for any advice that you can give.

I have had no problems with mine. One tooth has bent at a slight angle but has no effect on performance. I really like how the bottom teeth are short and the top are long. It makes grabbing things a lot easier. I have seen some grapples where the bottom teeth or forks are long and I believe it would make it much more difficult because you would be pushing things instead of letting that upper jaw go over the top of the object and pull it toward the shorter bottom forks Hope that makes sense

@@backinthewoods2022 I went ahead and bought it. Got it for $1500.00 which is less than half the price of a new one. I saw what you were doing with yours and it still looks good, so I jumped on it before someone else did. I also got a 4 in 1 bucket with my tractor when I bought it. It's handy but not near as good as the grapple. Thank for the reply. Keep up the good work.

How often do you need to sharpen your chain?

It looks like every log or about 10 cuts but I haven’t been doing it for long that’s what I have seen so far though.

@@backinthewoods2022 I've been wondering about a chainsaw vs bandsaw , but would have to buy a 48 " chain saw and the price would take a big bite out of materials to build a bandsaw

@@outinthesticks1035 a chainsaw mill that big would be one unruly piece of equipment. I would go with a bandsaw but that is big even for those.
