This video shows the step by step process to assemble the Elecraft PX3 High-Performance Panadapter kit. All that is needed is some patience, a screwdriver, tweezers, needle-nose pliers and an hobby knife.
I have a KX3 that I bought about 6 years ago, it's my primary radio for field uses as well as at home or in the motorhome. I've been thinking of buying the panadapter for it and your video has convinced me I should. My rig has all the options already installed along with the AT1 antenna, though I haven't yet bought the 40-meter adapter for that antenna. Thank you for your video. I built my KX3 and all the options when I bought it and used it quite a bit for summertime activity. I live in the Arctic so don't go out with it very often in the winter months.

I was incorrect, there were instructions in the back of the manual. But it was easier via the Tube, again great job.

Thanks Alan, I just purchased the PX3 kit and this video was very informative, the kit is easy to put together. I didn't know what I was getting into, now I do! Eddie kj4fgi

So much for electronic kit assembly they did all the fun stuff and left the tedious details to the owner :) Looks to be a nice design only let down by the front mounting window.

Nice video but all the time I was watching this.. I was wandering why Jerry did not assemble the kit himself. all the same thanks for making this instructional video.. and thanks Jerry for the anti tear down kit.

MMMMM looks like a 7 pin thermionic emitter that got lost years ago and reappeared looking for a home. Poor thing. W4GSM

Great presentation. I may build one myself instead of a buying pre assembled one. Dave K6KNS

Simple kit but none the less good job. It looks as if you have assembly experience.

What kind of signals go into this Panadapter , can we use it for something else then connecting to a kx3 ?

Hello, I have built a differential single balanced mixer with three transistors. To drive the differential pair with the LO signal I simply tried to used a small audio transformer. I have a old scope (version A) of the one you used in you video with the "ALT" button to see both signals. When the triggering flip switch is to "channel 1" or "channel 2" under this setting both signal appear 180 degrees out of phase which is what I want for the differential signal. However I am confused because when I flip the trigger flip switch to "Norm" setting in combination with "ALT" button setting both signals appear in phase. I have a newer digital scope from 1988 which doesn't seem to have same issue. But output signals from the collectors of both the differential pair transistors in phase. I expected the AM output signal to be 180 degrees out of phase also. I am new to all this. Do you have any idea what is going on and whether I in fact have a proper differential signal going here ? Many thanks, Peter :-)

When using the Norm trigger position, the trigger signal follows the Vertical signals/mode. Thus, the timebase is ALTernatively triggered on CH1 and CH2, using the same Trigger conditions (slope and level). Thus, each signal is going to be triggered on the same slope, making them appear in phase. Thus, to preserve the phase relationship on screen, just trigger on CH1 or CH2, not both like the Norm function does. On newer digital scopes, all channels are simultaneously acquired, and the trigger is just used to determine when to save and display results - so the signals appear properly with their phase intact.

Went together fast, couldn't have done it without this youtube, there were no instructions and the website was devoid of any kit assembly notes.
