Absolutely stunning example of classic American history! I love these old vintage board track racers and your Excelsior-Henderson Super-X is a prime example of perfectly preserved racing history! I really appreciate guys like you keeping these bikes running and showing them off instead of letting them collect dust in a museum or an old barn! I'm 35 and I love seeing these bikes, it's nice to actually see them up close and being able to hear them run! Thanks you for keeping this hobby alive!!! =D

@AlkoHol62 Thanks. Made in Chicago, IL, USA by Schwinn. The Super-Xs were kicking but in Class C racing and hill-climbs. Still has lots of power with the long-track sprocket gearing.

@wc4dblues Thanks! Hard to kick with the compression release linkage disconnected, but seems to catch easily. Probably will do about 65mph on the track, not sure without some data though. Feels like 90! A BLAST to ride!

I can just imagine people saying around 1925 "get that infernal claptrap machine outta here!". Love the sound of those mechanicals whirring -reminds me of "the World's fastest Indian" passing all the Triumph 650's like they were standing still. I would love to feel the power of this beautiful machine; pure Americana, imho

This is the third vehicle I've seen with Non Skid for a tire tread. The first was my neighbors 1924 REO school bus. The second was yesterday at a bike show on a 1916 Indian. Is the tire orginal or is it a special order item. If so were can you get them ? As my neighbor has been looking for them. He asked a manufacutrer and they told him that I would cost to much to make the mold. That it would not be worth it.

The shims are under the cylinders, by removing them it raises the compression ratio. With higher compression it'll make some more power, but it would require higher octane fuel in most cases. I assume that's why they used shims for road travel. racing fuel may have only been available at the track. An unwanted change from moving the cylinders up and down is the change in rocker arm geometry. Plus you'd have to reset the valve lash. It was overhead intake with a flathead exhaust. L head I think.
@craigreeves2258
10 жыл бұрын
Was that rocker arms at the top of the head? Or can you explain to me what that is if I'm wrong?
@slowpokebr549
9 жыл бұрын
It has an overhead intake and the exhaust is in the cylinder block. So Yeah, one rocker is at the top of the head.

@curbyweaver4606

A flathead is an "L-head", also known as a side-valve or pocket valve. A "T-head" has intake and exhaust in the block, but they're on different sides. An "F-head" is intake in the head and exhaust in the block, or the other way around, exhaust in the head and intake in the block.

I pump 1-1/2 shots from the oil tank directly to the crankcase, turn on the dripper which drops about 2 every 6 seconds(in the manual), wide open for racing so maybe twice that, and I drain all 3-6 ounces after the race and replace. The oil pump just recirculates. Alot of the oil blows out the breather.
@etyrnal

what's the unused lever for on the top of the case, between the cyl heads?
@Jayyar4
7 жыл бұрын
It is a compression release. There should be a rod from the foot-starter, to lift 1 exhaust valve, for less compression for starting. It only operated from the foot-starter. See my other 1926 Super X Super Sport video, which has the fittings. Higher compression bike.
