Right hand threads are standard. Unless your video is reversed (and the writing on the mower says it isn't). If you rotate the fastener counter clockwise, as you did, to loosen you have a right handed thread. Left hand threads are clockwise to loosen, counterclockwise to tighten.

The Brass tube you pulled from the carb is called an Emulsion tube , it is for creating a fine fuel mix . Those old carbs were so much better quality than the modern items . Initial setting for most old fuel mixes is approx 1.5 turns out from seated . Cool to hear it running again , nice job , btw best practice is to remove the plug lead before working under the deck in case it fires up .

7:23 tip of the day, put a bunch of string in the combustion chamber and leave a bit out of the plug hole, if you know which directon the nut spins on it the string prevents a full turn tranfering the rotatonal torque to the nut, its how i do it when needed.

My Grandmother and Granddaddy had that exact mower! I used to mow their yard with it back in the mid ‘60’s! It was a good little mower, liked the rear wheel! Made it easy to turn. The mower always started easy, Grandaddy always kept it tuned and changed the oil every season, sharpened the blade then as well! I’d love to have it, they gave it away, back when…

Very unique mower. I've never seen one like that. Now you have to totally refurbish it with stripping it down and painting it to new finish. But make sure you video that effort and post it. I'll watch that for sure... Thumbs Up!

If I remember correctly, mowers of that style with caster wheels were “trimming” mowers intended for mowing around trees and other obstacles. There were a lot of unique designs in the 50’s. That spark plug is most likely a J-8. Pretty much universal for mowers back then.

Great video and a great find in that old mower. I think it is much older than the 1950s. I had a 1957 Montgomery Wards mower that had a recoil-start Briggs & Stratton engine with a regular 4-wheel aluminum deck. Bought it at a yard sale in 1977. Worked great for many years My daughter rebuilt the engine in her shop class in Jr. High School in 1981, and I used it for another 11 years...

That was a solid little engine once you got everything dialed in. It ran a lot better than I would have expected it to. It's a really neat little mower. I think it's awesome that you were able to bring it back to life. I would love to see more stuff like this.

That's a great find. I'd buy it myself. A stiff spot can be a ridge where the piston sat for so long. Never try the nut on the crank without brush work and pb or lube. They can snap easy. A trip to Harbor Freight they have assortment boxes of pullers for the three holes on top.

I was going to use a puller on it, but I couldn't find any 1/4-20 bolts to thread into the flywheel and it was too late to run to the hardware store. Typically I would use a puller.

Junk? It's a piece of history. I didn't see the governor arm move once, it may be broke/stuck or even removed, if so be careful as an overspeed will destroy it! Give the valves a clean and lap them in, it could solve many issues with compression and starting.

8.40 ... So these are standard left hand thread.... no sorry, that thread is right hand, you turned the socket from approx 10 o'clock backwards through 6 o'clock to 4 o'clock that equates to lefty loosey which is correct for a right hand tread.

Ugh! Please invest in a proper puller tool ugh! Yes I understand that it will eventually work out by smacking the crap out of the crankshaft. If you only knew what it is doing to the inside of the engine doing it with that method??? So much for the thrust surface on the bottom of the crank Lol, who needs that?
@motormindset8227

You're right, I absolutely would've used my puller but I didn't have the proper bolts on hand and it was too late to go to the hardware store. I understand that it's not good for the bearings, but I was trying to make the most out of the time I had to film.
