This was my first national, drum and bugle Corps competition. I was in attendance, I was so impressed, with all the real drum and bugle Corp, many of them I've never seen before, the ones from the Midwest that is. I I was fortunate enough to compete, against many of the Easton, Corps. Like the Garfield Cadets, Blessed Sacrament golden knights, just to name a few. I played snare drum, as a member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles in 1960 and 1961. Today is May 4th 2022. How time flies. That competition was held at, Ebbets Field Brooklyn New York.

Listen to the snare solo after When Johnny Comes Marching Home. It’s the first on e heard with a patty-fla-fla rudiment, which is not easy to play at speed. Fantastic!

Yes, that's back when we had Real Drum and bugle Corps, playing real rudiments. No head bobbing, no juggling, not a rimshot every 4 or 8 Beats, no dancing and prancing. A real drum and bugle Corp. In my opinion, DCI is responsible for the demise of what was one of the greatest activity in our nation. They turned it into a three-ring circus, in the marching band woven into the circus performance. Today is May 4th 2022. Former member of the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 through 1968.
