southernfriedhippie You're not alone, I think any truck older than 20 years has moods. My '88 s15 has unpredictable performance, one day it struggles in 5th going up a hill, and the next it does just fine. Even after checking the distributor for moisture it still has good and bad moods.

it might be helpful to keep the rust out of the fuel lines, by placing neodymium magnets from an old hard drive on the fuel tank. that way the rust will be caught on the magnet, and not get sucked up by the sump.
@LarryDeSilva64

That was still sucking some crude into that fuel filter but hey the lines have to bleed it out some way. Yeah its always hard to second guess someones wiring. You have no idea what they did or didn't do better off just tracing and replacing. Surprised me how fast you took off down the road i would have thought it would have just lugged down a bit. Larry Graves I know in high school I did a 67 mustang.... that honestly was too far gone, I even learned how to weld putting new front rails and torque boxes on it.... drove it to college in Michigan from Pittsburgh in the summer....also put a 289 in a 82 ranger in 1991 for a beater....used to put camshafts in Chevy's and timing chains in 307 olds' for money. most kids these days don't even look for a job until they are 25 and if it ain't a video game they can't do it.... I worked in a steel mill for two years in college as an intern.... you can't put a price on experience like that

I love that truck. I'd put 4 new RWL tires on it, and keep the center caps, or go with black painted oem steel wheels with RWL tires. As for the ignition, why not replace the entire ignition system, distributor, coil, plugs and wires? Not much to an ignition system on that engine, and not expensive. Then you would not have to deal with ignition problems again.
