Flawless. Munch was a very great musician and had a fabulous baton technique. To admire and learn from.

What a marvelous performance! Surpasses so many recent recordings for color, character and sheer drama. It's worth mentioning that Charles Münch was concertmaster of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig under Wilhelm Furtwängler and Bruno Walter from 1926 to 1933.
I have seen many videos of Munch and saw him conduct many times in Boston. I think this is the best video of Munch in action I have ever seen! Thanks very much!

Roger Voisin principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony, taught the world how the March to the Scaffold and other parts of this work should go. It is likely brass of this orchestra knew the Munch recordings and then Munch reinforced the Voisin style. Many found it a trifle fierce but most people lauded his musicianship and found his playing in the Berlioz exciting. Kudos to the brass here for emulating the style so well!
