In another universe I want to be born in 1950 in California into a rich family that support all of my surfer lifestyle

Did not need to be rich. A working class lifestyle would have enabled you in that era to enjoy all of that. A Ford Mustang in that era cost $2400 which in today's money would be about $6000. The average income in that era was about $7500.

@@bighands69 I like the 60’s surfing culture. Growing up here I got into surf guitar. I also had my skateboard. I was not so much into surfing. My sports were skateboarding plus water and snow skiing. I remembered I had the blue and white stripe T-shirts along with a red and white stripe one. I think all these sports are cool. When this was filmed I was about 10 years old.

A bud and I got a couple of blanks from Foss Foam in Santa Ana(?) and some glass and resin. We shaped them ourselves and when we laid up the top deck, we used a couple of Red Mountain Wine labels as the board decals. Took them out to the HB Cliffs and rode our brains out. You are correct! Footage most likely shot in late-1963 or in 1964. Windansea Surf Club (jackets in beach crowd scene) wasn't formed until the summer of '63 and the board styles - especially that early tunnel fin - help confirm. Jackie Baxter is still a grom and smiling Thor Svenson didn't become Windansea's executive director until after the club was established. My guess ... 1963 US Surfing Championships at Huntington Pier.

I can remember learning to surf in 62 north oh Huntington Beach pier about 1/2 mile up at oil wells. I lived in San Francisco and was very lucky that my sister and husband bought their first home onEstary lane. After flying down during this yrs it was 11:99 on way to lax and than be driven down to Huntington. So the next dAy after pulling out all my paper route money they had a few sharks devoted to selling used boards, wax, decals, wet suites. In 62 I bought my first long board I was 5'2" the board was a Harbour it was no joking 10ft 2in 2 bars of wax and was set to go. my brother in law came with me to the water. THIS started at 8:30 I stayed in the water until 1:00pm. the next dAy about 11:00am waiting in the water I kept looking at this man and his wife. finally I just walked up to him and said are you Paul Butterfield he had sAid yes and I told him I saw his show at the Avalon Ballroom 2 weeks previous. I asked for his autograph and that was the ballroom Chet Helms owned/operated his girl became excited. It took me all summer to learn to surf. I changed boards to a. YATER with a concave nose and Rennie Tater was the first to apply SLIP CHECK...The old days...

I loved going to The Casino in Avalon in the 60's. I also spent a lot of time at The Rendezvous Ballroom near my home in Balboa. I remember seeing Paul Revere and The Raiders at the Rendezvous, and Paul Anka at The Casino. It was sad when the Rendezvous burned down I think in 1968 or so. I spent my time surfing mostly at Newport and Huntington Beach piers, plus on weekends surfing south, San Onofre, San Clemente, Point Loma and all beaches in between. Plus I loved body boarding at The Wedge. And when I didn't have use of my parents cars, I went everywhere on my skateboard. It was a great time and place to grow up.

Fast food basically wasn't invented yet and people did things outside all the time. Most people didn't lift weights they were just active all the time. So glad I was born in 1962.
