Any muscle car is subject to spin out when you're trying to make a sharp turn. I'n my opinion..just go ahead and hay bale that inside turn to give the drivers a little bit more peace of mind coming into that danger zone.

I grew up in the 60's and agree that a stock Chevelle would not have been a good handling car. A stock Mustang wasn't a good handling car either (I owned one). Watching this video though, it looks to me like this car had enough suspension modification to make it a genuinely good handling car. While I would not have dreamt of such a thing in the 60's or 70's - making those cars handle like modern cars is pretty normal nowadays. Since anyone, in any car can spin, including during timed-event competitions, it seems to me that this was a good handling car running on a course with wholly insufficient run-off room. Perhaps Goodguys should pay the SCCA to consult with track layout?

The driver knew bugger all about torque delivery, and paid the price. Skid control lessons would be a good investment.
@aasotih
Жыл бұрын
Well sure. Learning car control is what racing is about. It's a really good reason to time trial and to autocross especially. Less risk than being in a gaggle of race cars at speed on a track. But still, most race tracks today understand that loss of control happens, even to the most professional F1, Indy Car and NASCAR drivers - so having adequate run-off room is a given. This was a Good Guys track design mail IMHO. Totally foreseeable by the track crew.

@@farmerj1 Yes you are right. I was horsing around in our High School gravel lot 79/80. And found that when I did just that. I got those results. In 96 as part of my OTR Truck driver training with Schneider we had the only Real Skid Pad (Instructor had a device to put you into a skid) of any Driver training facility. And the biggest thing they taught was. As soon as you loose traction push in the Clutch. then off the accelerator or brake. To get the "Rolling Traction" back. As a Skidding wheel will always want to lead. rather from locked or spinning. That and steer to where you want to go to. Not so much into or out of ... They'd say head to the green triangle, put us in a skid. And tell us steer for the "orange" one... Worked for Bobcat and with the trailer. Saved my ass more than once in 16 years...Doing a refresher one day some new hire with verified 25 years experience who kept saying 25 years of being on the real skid pad (road) failed and wasn't hired.
