first remove the hydro filter and fill the filter with clean fluid and reinstall. second put jack stands under the rear axle so it lifts the tires about 1 inch off the ground. it's very important the tractor is supported well and secure. start engine and throttle up about 1/4 to 1/3 then engage the hydro in forward slowly till all the way forward. you should see the rear tires start to move forward and increase in speed as the air leaves the hydro system. this is according to the dohn deere manual. if the filter is not primed with fluid the hydro can't pick up new fluid from the reservoir. the cylinder moves the little bit with the fluid in the pump and lines. it doesn't act like it should. it more than likely needs to be bled. it is easy. with engine running after the wheels are working push the levers all the way forward one at a time and hold it there. this should run fluid through the valve body and lines through the over limit pressure safety valve (its in the valve body) and bled the system. you might hear the over limit valve operate you might not. the hydro unit is a Sundstrand series 15 u line. I have the books on them. hope this helps.

My Simplicity uses the same hydro pump and had the same problem. Where the input shaft goes into the pump there is a precharge pump, you have to remove the two 3/8" bolts on the oval shaped housing and remove the housing. It's a small oil pump inside that housing, the pin that drives the center gear shears off and won't pump the fluid. I found a drill bit the same diameter as the pin that broke and cut it down to fit inside the center gear. You will also notice the your hydraulics wont work when that pin shears off. I didn't have to do anything else to the hydro drive and it still works great years later. Hope this helps.

For me it looks like something in the geardrive is seized... The hydro is working you can hear the whining when it gets under load. But it cant spin the wheels so i think you have to Check the gearbox.

After pulling the reared and pump, I found the differential has something rolling around that's jamming it up. It's currently in pieces getting repairs and upgrades. I'll post another video here soon.

Dropped82 Hello, recent watched your video. My tractor is doing the exact same thing. I have a JD 317. Could you tell me what you had to do to fix? Much appreciated, thank you!

I have yet to tear into it. Once I finish another project, it'll be next. I question the rear axle also.
