Very good video. Watch from start to finish. been watching you before the name change, lol. Pitty, the car is so rusty with its history that it would be a good one to restore, but I get why it's a major undertaking to do so. Much enjoyed Thanks Tyler. You really should have more subs and views; this was quality!! As a big Saab fan, that's how I found you in the beginning. I'm more into the Saab 9000 Turbo, Saab 900, and Saab 9.5. I had a Saab Aero wagon from 2004 that was brand new, and it was a bullet when overtaking anything. I took care of it like this owner, but after a marriage breakup and all that, it was sold. I hope it's still being taken care of. For 5 years, I had zero problems, not one.

Yeah, for the amount of money and time that would take, someone has been trying to sell a clean looking Lancia Fulvia HF shell locally... makes me think about effort vs reward. Thanks for following! If this Corvair can complete POR without major issues, I should be able to get back on my burgundy Sonett sometime next winter for a front end rebuild. So you can look forward to that! I've heard great things about the OG9⁵ Aero, and I had a great time driving a friend's C900T years ago. But they are too electronic for me to consider owning one. Hope you are able to buy yours back one day.

I remember that V4. I aways thought it was a neat engine. It is so compact. It makes sense that Saab chose it to replace their two strokes. Good job on getting in moving again. It is going to need what my mechanic friend called a "Fluff-n-buff" . Hone the cylinders, a light grind on the valves and check everything while it's apart. These fluff-n-buff rebuilds were good/are good for simple engines like your V4 Saab.

Yeah, the engine would be rebuildable for sure. It's the chassis that's the biggest concern.

I've seen crazy things done for split window VW's. Decent running driving Sonetts are available for a couple grand. This would be a restoration project ONLY for someone who is too stubborn to give up! It would be nice to stabilize this chassis, but even that is an incredible undertaking. Maybe I can build up my skills on the Greenbrier and come back to this.

@@azirbang1971 I have a much nicer (but slightly less complete 1973 Sonett that is awaiting some repairs already. This green one may get help eventually, but given the condition, it's a low priority.

The small plasic parts that you find everywhere comes from the valvestem seals. I can see that you didnt install the new valvestem seals since they are still in the gasket package. Its possible to change the seals with the cylinderheads mounted. What will happen running the engine with cracked seals is that it will appear smoky on lower revs. This is from my own experience with v4.

Ah! Interesting. I didn't see any of them installed, and don't remember having them at all on my burgundy car. Not going to worry about it!

I have been watching you for a few years now. I have an almost restored a 67 V4 1500cc Sonett I have worked on on and off for 18 years. You are doing great. The fan on you new Sonett is the better 5 blade. The ends are cut off on purpose for use on the Sonett. If you are a member of the VSCNA you will have seen some articles I put in the Vintage Views quarterly magazine. Just love Sonett's.

that car is a very good candidate for a Cologne V-6 engine, the car front end seems to be a little longer than the one of the sedan model. very good video

People have done it before. I believe it involves a custom radiator setup. The bay is pretty tight with everything installed

What is that a SAAB v4? I am an old SAAB mechanic and I newer saw a v4 looking like that. I do recognize the motor though and the freewheel was in the v4 that I remember. I live a bit outside Linkoping Sweden where the plane factory is and my SAAB shop where I worked send us up to SAAB mechanic school in Nykoping. This must be a SAAB Sonett or something but I have never seen one in real life so it cannot be a very successful car model. I mean Linkoping, Nykoping and Trollhattan is pretty much the SAAB towns.

Keep it for a parts car you may be able to run across a chassis someday. There is a metal manufacturer in my area that is an enthusiast that makes the parts but that one is too far gone. I have all of the same documentation with my 68 Sonnet V4.

It just kills me. A friend was trying to sell me a clean chassis without the body a year or two ago. I had no use for it and didn't know of #501 yet. Would have been perfect.

Hi I’ve been trying to restore one of these bad boys as well. I was curious if you know a good place to get new tires for these. I’ve looked around but haven’t had much luck.

I use 155 Vredestein Sprint Classics for the summer and Firestone WinterForce 2 for winter rallying. The Saab Restoration and Preservation group on Facebook has a thread about this every couple months too, which may give you other ideas.

When they're sticky they make more of a TINK noise and when they work it's more like a TOING. Sometimes tapping it a couple times will loosen it up. It's hard to convey on video.
